AM5HDBT: 5HDBT Eagle HD Heavy Duty
Al Mar Knives
The Al Mar Eagle has always been a great and full sized folding lockback pocketknife. The slim profile makes it easy to carry. This heavy duty model is actually thinner than the lightweight Micarta ones and it's also still very lightweight. The G10 handles are very thin and rest on full stainless liners. The top quality Japanese manufacturing shows through in every aspect. The pocket clip is reversible to the other side of the handle. We like this model and think a lot of Al Mar enthusiasts will see its value. These are all made in the Moki factory in Japan - one of the finest quality makers in the world.

More from Al Mar: Eagle Heavy Duty Introducing our Eagle Heavy Duty model. Built for the individual that carries the Eagle Ultralight for their "EDC" and wished they could have a tougher version with the same features as our SERE 2000. Well here it is, the all new Eagle "HD" Heavy Duty. The "HD" weighs in at only one ounce more than the Ultralight version, it has skeleton-ized heat treated 400 series stainless steel liners , G-10 scales, adjustable action, dual thumstuds and our reversible/removable pocket clip system which attaches through the lanyard hole. Just as the Eagle Ultralight is very easy to carry and disappears in your pocket, so does the Eagle Heavy Duty. We took the same great profile and slim design and added strength and features. The Eagle Heavy Duty - it will be your next favorite "EDC" or "Every Day Carry" knife.

Pros: Blade Sharpness, Weight, None
Cons: Pocket Clip, Handle Feel
Not what I expected
Within two weeks of my purchase, the thumb stud fell off. blade is great. easy to sharp and keeps edge pretty well. Light weight, relatively easy to open. My only issue is the fact that the thumb stud fell off and after a month of daily pocket clipping, the clip needs tightening. It's a shame that a company that makes a $140 knife can't come up with a stud and clip assembly that has better staying power.

Pros: Pocket Clip, Handle Feel, Lock Type, Overall Quality, Handle Material, Weight, Lock Ease of Use, Blade Sharpness
Cons: Ease of Opening, None
Nice fit and finish
This is a really well made knife. The fit and finish is excellent. A little tough to open; if the thumb stud had been even 3 millimeters further away from the pivot point, it would have been much easier to open. It cam a little crunchy in opening but a little bit of knife oil in the pivot point and nice and smooth now. Very sharp. Good hand feel and no play in the blade. Locks and unlocks easily. Nice and light but not too light. Because of the blade shape, I would not expect it to take too much abuse before bending or chipping at the tip but perfect for light EDC duty. Really great knife!

Workhorse Knife
This knife is an excellent sportsman's knife. The handle offers a good grip for wet hands. Not a knife you can take everywhere due to its slightly larger size but its an excellent knife for outdoor activities.
