Pros: Materials, Blade Sharpness, Handle Material, Weight, Blade Material, None
Cons: Sheath/Scabbard, Finish
Great knife, horrible sheath (design).
This is a fine product from Benchmade. I love the design of the knife, and the quality in craftsmanship is great, though sadly not impeccable. The edge on mine was not super-even, and just barely noticeably 're-curved' where it should be just straight. Seems like they ground it too much closer to the grip. But, that is not the problem. The reason I didn't give this knife a much better rating is because of the included sheath. I've had knives with badly made sheaths, and knives with good sheaths. This was something new to me. The sheath is very well made in terms of quality of material. But, the design is a bad one. There is a screw and bolt made of metal near the opening that allows for changing the tension on the knife when it is in the sheath. Good idea in theory, but the metal bolt is exposed at the opening between the kydex pieces that make up the sheath, and it is places in front of the knife. Meaning, the edge faces it.I didn't notice the problem until it was too late. I had unknowningly let the very fine edge hit the metal bolt when pulling it out, probably a few times, and had numerous tiny knicks and bends in the edge before I realized the problem. It's a bummer to put this much money into a knife, which is worth it in itself, only to have the factory sheath damage it. Granted it is tiny damage, but I've never had this problem with any knife before. Metal should not be on a sheath where it is on this one.Knife is a 4 (would have been a 5 if the edge was impeccably ground when I got it) and the sheath drags it down almost to a 2. The reason I didn't give it a 2 is because if you take out the bolt and screw and put a zip-tie in it or something you don't have the problem. But Benchmade really needs to re-design the sheath.
