BM555HGBLU: 555HGBLU Mini Hollow Ground Griptilian
The Griptilian is born of custom knife maker Mel Pardue's passion for functional designs. You release the creature's ferocity with a thumb stud. At the very heart of the Griptilian, is the exclusive AXIS™ locking mechanism. This modern marvel gives life to a cutting tool like you have never experienced before, especially in a lightweight folder. Rock-solid ambidextrous function is sure to tame the most die-hard of traditionalists. And you can grab onto the lightweight, injection molded handle with its grip-textured surface and rib covered spine that grabs you right back for a "can't let go" grip.

  • AXIS® A patented Benchmade exclusive, AXIS has been turning heads and winning fans ever since its introduction. A 100-percent ambidextrous design, AXIS gets its function from a small, hardened steel bar which rides forward and back in a slot machined into both steel liners. The bar extends to both sides of the knife, spanning the liners and positioned over the rear of the blade. It engages a ramped, tang portion of the knife blade when it is opened. Two omega style springs, one on each liner, give the locking bar it’s inertia to engage the knife tang, and as a result the tang is wedged solidly between a sizable stop pin and the AXIS bar itself.

Perfect EDC
Perfect size, non intimidating for people that have coworkers that are averse to "scawwy knives". had to touch up the blade to my standards when I got it but no big deal. axis lock is top notch and ergonomics are fantastic!

Benchmade Mini Grip 555 series
Long time fan of the Griptilian design, my EDC is a Benchmade/Ritter mini grip. I wanted this 555 series mini for use with summer weight nylon hiking pants or shorts because of the thumb hole design. I found the original thumb stud design was rough on these lightweight fabrics and the 555 series thumb hole solved that problem for me. Plus, I have complete confidence in the axis lock and wanted to stay with that design. I did feel the very course grit belt used to sharpen the blade was a serious mistake, it creates more of a saw edge than a sharp edge and it took some work to get rid of it.

My favorite EDC ever
The blue makes it less threatening at work. Something about the curve of the "duck bill" blade makes this the most useful cutter I've ever carried. Opens easy and locks well. Its my favorite Every Day Carry knife of all time. (I'm 49.) I'm buying two more. (Since if I like it . . . they'll probably quit making it . . .) I don't "need" or use a knife for work, but for a general purpose carry cutting tool for the everyday guy or gal . . . I'd highly recommended it.
