Pros: Lock Type, Handle Material, Blade Sharpness, Blade Material, Ease of Opening, Handle Feel, Weight, Lock Ease of Use, Overall Quality
Cons: Pocket Clip, None
History:After getting my money’s worth with the Benchmade Stryker for the past 15 years, I thought it time to treat myself to something a little newer / updated for daily carry. Needless to say, after a bit of research and investigation I found myself "drawn" to this knife.Handle:I personally like the G-10 handles (prefer, actually) to just about any other material as I can always get a good grip in any condition or if I'm wearing gloves. No disappointment here. The handle is very comfortable—but ultimately do prefer the smoother handle of the Stryker as it feels better in my bare hand. Also, I do like the ridges on the Stryker where my thumb rests on the top of the back to help prevent slippage as the Rift doesn’t have these. Needless to say, these are very minor things and I’m happy with the Rift’s handles and the design. The Rift has grooved sides which helps get a firmer grip with the fingers so I consider it a wash and just need to get used to the different feel compared with the Stryker.Blade:Wow, it’s nice. A little longer and much wider than the Stryker—more utilitarian in use. Love the black coating (a must for all of my knives) and couldn’t care less if it gets scuffed-up over time as it gives character to the knife over the years (while protecting it). It’s chisel ground as opposed to the hollow ground of the Stryker making it sharper. Thumbs-up!Pocket Clip:Personal preference here. I'm used to drawing the Stryker so I won't ding the design. It does makes sense when you see where it's positioned, and I just need to get used to drawing the Rift in the opposite direction (the clip is on the same side but other end of the handle).Overall:Couldn’t be happier. A very solid knife, well-made, and fits the bill for what I need in a constant companion. I figure this will last me another 15+ years—easily—and now my Stryker can get some much needed days off.
