Description
BO01BO170: Boker Plus Epicenter
Boker Plus

The Epicenter was designed by Todd Rexford, a young knifemaker from Colorado, who is a remarkable talent in the world of knife design. In addition to our successful Boker Plus line, this model represents a significant innovative step. Being the first titanium frame lock, this piece reaches a special status within our knife range. The massive titanium plates have a thickness of 5 mm, and are contoured three-dimensionally, offering outstanding performance and stability. Equally impressive is the blasted titanium surface and the finish of the handle (without protruding edges), which make the knife not only a sturdy usable knife, but also a beautiful collector's piece. The modified satin drop point blade is made of VG-10 steel, and features a removable double-sided thumb stud. The titanium pocket clip is reversible, allowing tip-up or tip-down carry, and the lanyard hole adds convenience. An impressive synthesis of technology and design! Blade length: 3 1/2". Overall length: 8 3/8". Weight: 6.5 oz.

Pros: Lock Type, Blade Material, Blade Sharpness, Handle Feel, Overall Quality, None
Cons: Pocket Clip, Weight, Ease of Opening
Nice, but a bit specialized
This knife is nicely designed, and is built like a tank! But, it is not an everyday carry knife. It is too bulky, and quite heavy, so there is no way that I would carry it around in my pocket. It would be very well suited for camping/hunting/skinning. Very strong lock up, and a really tough (and thick!) blade. So just be aware that this is a VERY heavy duty pocket knife.

AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE
I have been burned by boker in the past, but the knife was attractive enough to give it a shot. First impressions are everything and this knife came from knife center out of a "safety sealed" box covered in fingerprints and with a pocket clip that swings like a pendulum. I tried to used the, included, torx head adjustment tool to tighten the screws fastening the clip to the frame, and wouldn't you know it, they rounded out. Why make a knife out of quality materials like VG10 and titanium if you are just going to use sub par parts to fasten them together. Never again, Boker! Never AGAIN!!!!

Requires Break In Time
I'm going to stick to things that you can't discern for yourself, without the knife. Blade size, visuals and all that are up to the buyer (though I must say I do love the elegant simplicity of this design). If you do not know VG10, it's a great blade steel, edge retention is excellent and it's easy to sharpen, I highly recommend it. Mine came hair-shaving sharp. The knife is a flow-through design, making it a breeze to clean. The locking mechanism is a framelock, the lock up is rock solid, and very early. It also makes a very satisfying click when locking open. There's even a rounded groove at the locking bar so you can push your thumb in there and effortlessly disengage the lock - a very charming touch. The pocket clip in combination with the smooth scales makes pocket placement and removal very smooth; no pants shredding with this thing. My centering was utterly perfect. NOW onto the one and only problem I had (and no longer have) with this knife. Opening this knife one-handed was nigh impossible during the first week. The detent was super tight. Indeed, I had to sit there and continually open and close the blade, really working that detent. SO in close, I could not recommend this blade more! It's a total 5/5 BUT don't get discouraged when the blade is difficult to open. It just takes some breaking in and it will become an incredibly smooth one-handed opener. I can even flick my blade out now (only took about 2 weeks of playing with it to getto this point) and this is without any pivot adjustment, as I don't have the proper tools (Torx bits). You will not be disappointed with this knife.
