Description
BO01BO364: Boker Plus Gitano
Boker Plus

The Tom Krein Gitano is a great knife. This is a large folder with a full 4-1/4" blade and a great style in the vein of Spanish knives with the curved heal of the handle and slightly upswept look to the blade. Tom Krein is one of the most well known modern American knife designers and he specializes in very thin edges to his blades. Boker tries to emulate this with a nicely hollowed grind resulting a remarkably thin profile close to and at the cutting edge. The "walk and talk" of this knife are really nice. The knife feel as it opens, the "walk," is smooth and solid and the sound as it locks- the "talk" of the knife is nice and pleasing. The handle is long but Boker has profiled this pocketknife to be thinner than it could be so that carrying it is comfortable. The blade steel is 440C which is not looked upon as a premium steel, but it is a very good steel and many believe it the equal of more high priced products. It will serve you well for many years- hold a great edge and take one. Getting a Tom Krein designed full sized folder with this great shape and very good materials at this price is amazing. They are no longer being made, so these are worth buying.

From Boker Knives: Tom Krein from Arkansas is most well known for his fixed blade hunting and outdoor knives. For some time now, he has gotten more and more into folding knives, and his latest design, the Gitano, is a remarkable one. This full size folder, with its perfect ergonomics, is loosely based on the historical Mediterranean Navajas, where Krein transfers the traditional knife design into a modern, highly functional folding knife. The generously dimensioned handle allows various grip positions, to accommodate any cutting chore, and the slightly bent handle end ensures a secure grip. Despite its overall length of almost 10", the Gitano can be carried comfortably due to its minimal weight. The blade shape is also based on the Navaja blade, which is now referred to as a modified clip point blade. The contoured G-10 handle scales are smooth yet grippy, and the steel liners with the liner lock add stability. The blade steel is high performance 440C stainless. Includes pocket clip.

Pros: Handle Material, Handle Feel, Lock Type, Overall Quality, Ease of Opening, Weight, Lock Ease of Use, Blade Sharpness
Cons: Pocket Clip, None
Big ol reliable carry
Had this one for about a year. It is my carry hunting knife. Heavy enough to cut palmetto and brush for blinds. Resharpens easily and holds an edge adequately. Unfortunately the torx screws for the clip loosened and one was lost so had to improvise to reinstall the clip. If I didn't have one I would buy another.

Pros: Overall Quality, Ease of Opening, Pocket Clip, Blade Sharpness, Handle Feel, Handle Material, None
Cons: Lock Ease of Use, Weight
I use this as an EDC, a bit large but still comfortable. Fit & finish is very nice, It's just a really cool piece. It locks super tight and secure with an impressive 'clock' sound. Biggest 'con' is that it's difficult to unlock - but that's kinda a good thing. Ergonomic and fine handle, love it.

Grab it while you can.
This is a great knife and a steal at this price. Now that it's OOP, get one while you can. You won't regret it if you like big, sharp, light knives. Fit and finish is excellent. the only possible downsides are the pocket clip and the 440c blade steel. But, hey, once upon a time 440c was the supersteel of the moment and that wasn't so long ago.
