Description
BO01BO364: Boker Plus Gitano
Boker Plus

The Tom Krein Gitano is a great knife. This is a large folder with a full 4-1/4" blade and a great style in the vein of Spanish knives with the curved heal of the handle and slightly upswept look to the blade. Tom Krein is one of the most well known modern American knife designers and he specializes in very thin edges to his blades. Boker tries to emulate this with a nicely hollowed grind resulting a remarkably thin profile close to and at the cutting edge. The "walk and talk" of this knife are really nice. The knife feel as it opens, the "walk," is smooth and solid and the sound as it locks- the "talk" of the knife is nice and pleasing. The handle is long but Boker has profiled this pocketknife to be thinner than it could be so that carrying it is comfortable. The blade steel is 440C which is not looked upon as a premium steel, but it is a very good steel and many believe it the equal of more high priced products. It will serve you well for many years- hold a great edge and take one. Getting a Tom Krein designed full sized folder with this great shape and very good materials at this price is amazing. They are no longer being made, so these are worth buying.

From Boker Knives: Tom Krein from Arkansas is most well known for his fixed blade hunting and outdoor knives. For some time now, he has gotten more and more into folding knives, and his latest design, the Gitano, is a remarkable one. This full size folder, with its perfect ergonomics, is loosely based on the historical Mediterranean Navajas, where Krein transfers the traditional knife design into a modern, highly functional folding knife. The generously dimensioned handle allows various grip positions, to accommodate any cutting chore, and the slightly bent handle end ensures a secure grip. Despite its overall length of almost 10", the Gitano can be carried comfortably due to its minimal weight. The blade shape is also based on the Navaja blade, which is now referred to as a modified clip point blade. The contoured G-10 handle scales are smooth yet grippy, and the steel liners with the liner lock add stability. The blade steel is high performance 440C stainless. Includes pocket clip.

Big smooth folder
I was minding my own business, hopefully not buying another knife when Knifecenter sent me an email telling me the Gitano designed by Tom Krein was on sale. As this is one of the 247 knives I think i should purchase before I die, I quickly dug out my Visa and ordered one. I knew this one was big, but i was pleased at how sleek and agile this knife is. its well in my pocket, pops open easily. The package was shrink wrapped (good thing it wasn't my first knife or Iwould have needed to bite it open) The box was "safety sealed" and the metallic rattling sound concerned me. No worries, it was just the custom wrench for adjusting things. Good old 440 steel, hair shaving sharp right out of the box. Well done. Go ahead Knife Center, I dare you to put the Boker Tuf 2 on sale, I double dare you!

Fine large folder
Just received and obviously a fine folder. A little larger than I had anticipated for an edc but very slim and a relatively light carry. Old school 440C but that's fine. Razor sharp with a thick spine and thin hollow edge accompanied with a ergonomicly fine handle Thanks much for a fine knife.
