BO01BO700: Boker-Matic Black
Boker Plus

High tech style.

This classic knife is just plain cool. It is not automatic opener - not a switchblade. In fact, it is the antithesis of a switchblade! It retracts automatically, but you need to manually push the blade out. Boker used to produce these in Germany, but the newer ones from Asia are actually better. Back under the Boker Plus banner, the Boker-Matic is now available with a handy pocket clip. The handle is made of fiberglass reinforced nylon, and the stainless steel blade can be retracted into the cavity with one hand. To engage the blade, you simply push the handle scale to the side and slide the push button upwards; push the scale back over to lock in place. The blade retracts with lightning-fast speed by pushing the handle scale over.

This knife is an all-around great knife - exciting to use, unique lock up, all at a low price.

Pros: Blade Material, Handle Material, Blade Sharpness, None
Cons: Lock Ease of Use, Ease of Opening, Lock Type
Although this knife opens and closes exactly as described, it is both clumsy and dangerous. Rotating the scale in opening requires a difficult position of your hand that takes all pressure off the scale while reaching your thumb to the butt end of the knife to get the slide button. The result is you can't hold the knife firmly when opening it. Second, once it is opened with the scale locked in place, your grip, especially with the edge down and your thumb on the spine, can release the blade accidentally, leaving you knifeless.

Pros: None
Cons: Blade Sharpness, Lock Type, Ease of Opening, Handle Feel, Overall Quality
Looked like a cool concept when I saw it online. When I got it in my had I was disappointed by the poor execution. Yea it's cheap, but the sliding handle lock release mechanism feels like it's just waiting to fail and fall apart. Wasn't terribly sharp out of the box either.
