BO110617: Haddock

High performance.

A new member of the international Boker design team is Jens Ansø from Denmark. We are proud to offer this modern piece which features, with its massive dimensions and two-way clip, all the criteria of a true pocket knife and is sure to inspire the ambitious user and collector. The upper scale is made of contoured, CNC machined G-10, and the back liner consists of 3mm of solid titanium. This construction allows for an excellent feel and grip, and keeps it lightweight. The exotic shaped blade is made of cobalt N690BO steel, is 5mm thick, and features a precise hollow grind that is razor sharp and perfectly balanced. The classic nail nick makes opening easy, and the stonewashed finish on the blade and framelock provides an attractive contrast to the handle. Blade length: 3-3/8". Overall length: 7-5/8". Weight: 4 oz. Made in Solingen, Germany.

Pros: Lock Type, Pocket Clip, Handle Feel, Blade Sharpness, Blade Material, Ease of Opening, Weight, Lock Ease of Use, Overall Quality
Cons: None
Perfect high end EDC
Perfect EDC, great blade size & shape. Perfectly useful, but not scary looking. Custom knives have now appreciated so much that don't feel comfortable using as EDC, so this high quality blade is great. One concern is that the extreme edge sharpness is achieved by a 15º bevel as opposed to the more common and durable 20º. The 15º grind would normally be more delicate/less durable, but the sintered n60bo may make up for that. Don't know yet.

Let down by the rough lock
This knife would push most of my EDC rotation out of the way if the lock was smooth. After a week of carry, the lock is still not broken in and smooth despite putting some graphite on it. I'll probably take it apart at some stage and polish the Ti lockbar (the tang looks smooth) but this should have been done at the factory. The pocket clip was an easy fix by bending it slightly. The rest is very close to perfect. If I can sort the lock out I'll carry it as often as my CRKs and Striders.

An excellent copy of the original
The frame lock is better than the original, covering a larger part of the "tang" - the back of the blade. - locking the blade securely The knife feels very light in the hand and pocket, the clip is well positioned to reveal as little as possible outside the pocket. Lastly, the finish is excellent, giving the knife a rugged no-nonsense look while hiding minor imperfections that one can incur under use. There were no imperfections as delivered. The skeletal construction makes cleaning a cinch. I find the Haddock not only unique and pleasing in proportions, "feel" and finish, but too, it is an excellent EDC, my favorite production knife to date. The pivots work smoothly and there is no play between the blade and handle. I haven't tried shaving with it, but I would not be surprised that I could. A beautiful design and exercise in simplicity - typical of the Dane aesthetic. Followed by uncompromising German manufacture of course, from the town that has been making knives for a 1000 years. I am hoping that ANSO and BOKER will collaborate with more product...for example ANSO's FUNK....another great design. I'd be on line to buy the first. The Haddock feels like a custom knife (and I have many) and not a production blade.
