CISH2065: Lowlander Two-Handed Great Sword
CAS Hanwei

Wielded with untamed ferocity on many a Gaelic battlefield, the massive Lowlander sword vividly illustrates the might of the Scots of old. Known as “Slaughter-Swords” in the 16th century, these were the swords of choice for Scottish mercenaries of the period, and at close to six feet long the Lowlander faithfully replicates a surviving museum piece. Though by far the largest sword ever offered by CAS Hanwei, the Lowlander is beautifully proportioned and balanced. The typically Scottish quatrefoils in the ring guards attest to the heritage of this imposing piece. The sword is available in both polished and antiqued finishes, the finish of the SH2065N closely replicating that of the original museum piece. The grips of the Lowlander are leather-covered with an overlaid leather binding. A wall mount is provided to allow the transplanted Gael to display his sword with pride.

Pros: Overall Quality, Usable

Excellent, Solid Replica
I purchased this product after reading online reviews, having had some concerns about the stories of "rat tail" tangs. The sword came dis-assembled, and thankfully Hanwei has done away with the rat-tail; the sword tang is a very solid piece of bar stock. The hollow pommel threads on to a small extension which does not affect the handling of this great sword (sorry for the pun). For those interested in acquiring a very nice replica of a historic Lowland sword, the Hanwei piece is a very good investment at a very low price.

Big Sword
I'll use the sword as a display item at Scottish festivals where I represent my clan. It was the closest available to what was used at the time of our last cheiftan in the early 17th century, so it had particular historical relevance. Although lightweight, it's length makes it challenging to handle, so I'm looking forward to seeing how a re-enactor can show me to use it. The blade is sharpened, which makes it even truer to what was actually used. I love the handguard & hilt!
