Description
CISH2483: Modern Samurai Tactical Tanto
CAS Hanwei

The Tactical Tanto isn't just a logical extension to the popular Tactical Wakizashi and Tactical Katana, it's an updated interpretation of the Samurai fighting knife. A classic blade style with modern construction, it doesn't get any better than this!

Based on the blade geometry and superb cutting ability of the Paul Chen Raptor series tanto but with full tang construction for ultimate blade strength. The 5160 high-carbon spring steel blade is plasma coated for corrosion protection and the checkered Kraton handle provides a sure foul-weather grip. The fiberglass scabbard construction avoids water absorption and reduces carrying weight, while several lanyard holes and the included ParaCord provide carrying and backpack attachment options.

Made by Hanwei.

Pros: Handle Material
Cons: None
Solid piece without unnecessary extras
I purchased this knife solely for my personal amusement. I was not interested in an authentically mounted blade that I would end up ruining due to inexperience, and it has served perfectly. I originally had problems with KnifeCenter not wanting to accept my credit card, but a manager resolved my issue without any intervention on my part. Comments: The blade is less a knife and more a very small sword. The handle is more than large enough for my large hands but too small for a full two-handed grip. The edge has no blemishes to my eye and while it did not come "shaving-sharp" it cut paper and meat easily. The handle is adequately "gripy" without being sticky. The blade came oiled and was slightly dirty from being inside the scabbard - I wiped with a cloth and re-oiled. Issues: The scabbard does not fit securely out of the box (the blade falls out.) I expected this going in and have successfully shimmed the scabbard by epoxying a sliver of plastic into the mouth of the scabbard. Not a major problem, but something to keep in mind. The blade is full tang and is not perfectly fitted to the handle scales (a small void below the guard.) This is a cosmetic issue and does not affect function. Traditional mounting would have made this invisible and is simply the nature of scale handles. This knife is for "because I can". It is (obviously) too large for EDC or concealed-carry. It would work fine as a machete but is overkill in that role. It could be used for camp chores like batoning but is really too large for the role. It would be ideal as a baseball bat-substitute for "bumps in the night". Not perfect, but for the price a nice introduction to blades of this type
