CN41511HC: Eco Parang Machete
Condor Tool & Knife
The blade is made from German 1075 High Carbon Steel and are heat treated and annealed to about 56-58 Rockwell hardness. The edge is hand finished and polished to razor sharpness. Blade has the Condor natural finish which is a bare metal look, that has the appeal of a well worn pair of jeans. There is a special treatment over the top of the blade to help repel rust. The high impact poplypropylene handles are strong and virtually indestructible. These handles are molded directly to the machete making it impossible to separate. The tang continues to the back of the handle, with a metal lanyard passing through it for added strength. The ballistic Nylon sheath is much quieter than Kydex, and are MOLLE compliant. Condor's special sheath shop conducted research to find materials that would be sturdy, and each sheath is double stitched and reinforced for heavy duty use.

A Razor Sharp Beast
My first Condor blade, I decided to get it because it was a lighter version of the Bushcraft Parang that has great reviews on Youtube. When I opened the box and removed the tissue paper covering the blade, I almost cut myself. I had expected that I would need to reprofile and sharpen the blade on my Work Sharp, but it was unexpectedly sharp. I then joked with my wife and said I should shave my arm hair. When I did, a big swatch of hair floated off my arm to the floor! YMMV because I've heard that Condor has some grind issues, but this thing was sick. Now I was a little worried that the edge would fold or get damaged when chopping, but I took it out to an fallen oak limb anyway. This limb fell during the storm we had recently and was rather large. It was still wet, but I figured hardwood was a good test even sodden. First two swings and I knocked a half inch deep chip out of the limb. Eight chops later and the 5 inch thick limb cracked in two. Wow, it was like butter. I then broke out my folding Corona razor saw and sawed through a portion of the limb near the same thickness. It took about the same time, maybe a tiny bit longer. That saw is designed to zip through wood so I was shocked. I recommend this parang without reservation. It is a brand new 2014 release from the catalog, so I would say get it now before they run out of stock.
