Condor Tool & Knife = Finest Machete
WOW!!! The Gerb Weyesberg Company of Solingen, Germany has delivered with IMACASA/Condor of El Salvador for the finest machetes i have seen.(I own some of their sword bayonets for 1891 Mauser Rifles) fine work indeed.Steel: 1075 High carbon has excellent durability, sharpness, & edge retention. Easily sharpened. Slices paper out of box and a few strokes with a stone will make it razor sharp. 5.0mm thick (thicker than any machete I know of). Balance is perfect even though some what heavy (yes it is heavy). Very sharp strong tip.Handle: Polypropylene is indestructible. Shape is a little lacking though (a bit slippery). Had to use my Dremel to improve grip (personal preference). Full tang with brass ring for lanyard is a plus.Sheath: The best I have seen of any maker. Very thick cow hide with straight stitching and reinforced rivets. I like the swivel style loop as it allows comfort when sitting down a big plus for me (some may not and wish to add another rivet for strength). Knife will not rattle or come loose, even upside down.Use: The "Barong" is more similar to a large knife than a true machete. Would be a great agricultural processor with its deep belly. Could be used similar to a chef's knife. Excellent chopper, but its weight is rearward toward the handle (chops as well or better than a small camp hatchet). It bites wood well in the middle of the belly. Makes quick of 2" white oak here in Southern Illinois. May not excel at slicing light brush and vines at distance do to leaf style blade(remember rear weighted blade). Tip is very strong and sharp with excellent stabbing accuracy that no machete style could match. This is now my go to camp knife.X Factor: This would make a superb weapon and make quick work of any hogs or zombies!Overall: Fit, finish, and overall quality is the best. Condor makes my Ontario and Cold Steel's seem average. Esse machete's look very similar and I wonder if Condordoes not have a roll in making theirs? Next purchase is the sexy looking Golok. Condor delivered and is the only machete I will now buy!
