Description
CR1050: Fire Spark
Columbia River Knife & Tool

The CRKT Fire Spark combines everything we know about folders, including Fire Safe and OutBurst assisted opening, and the LAWKS safety.

At Columbia River Knife & Tool (CRKT), our goal in producing this folder is to combine all of our recent technological advances in one heavy-duty tactical folder. We call it the Fire Spark, and it is primarily intended for law enforcement and military professionals, although it also makes a fine general-purpose sport and work folder for those who want to carry a large knife.

The innovative construction starts with our rigid InterFrame build with stainless steel liners, one locking. We add 6061 aluminum scales, which are CNC machined to receive black textured G10 inlays. The handle is a full 4.75” long to be comfortable for those with large hands, or when wearing gloves, and features four finger choils to give optimum grip. The cross section is flat enough for in-pocket carry. Finally, there is a strong stainless steel back spacer that extends to the butt, which culminates in a “skull cracker” pointed tip. The back spacer is relieved to allow a double lanyard loop to be cut in the stainless steel liners.

The blade on the Fire Spark is a modified tactical spear point design with a Razor-Sharp edge, high hollow grind and swedged top edge for penetration. Blade steel is premium 8Cr14MoV stainless steel.

Two models are available. The Tactical 1050K is finished in nonreflective black oxide on blade, frame, three-position stainless steel clip, and hardware. We also offer the Sport 1050, which has a high satin blade finish, silver anodized frames, and polished three-position stainless steel clip.

We have combined our patented OutBurst assisted opening with our patent-pending1 Fire Safe mechanism. When closed, the blade is safely locked by the Fire Safe pin. It cannot be opened until the thumb stud is pressed and nudged outward. Then the blade springs open instantly for use. The system assures fast opening action even in cold weather and when wearing gloves.

Finally, to maintain lockup in high-stress situations, we’ve incorporated the patented2 LAWKS safety, which effectively converts the folder into a virtual fixed blade when the LAWKS lever is pressed forward.

The Fire Spark is the most fully featured tactical folder we have ever offered, and it is also a great value.
Features

Pros: Handle Feel, Overall Quality, None
Cons: Ease of Opening
Love this knife
I have several knives, but this is my first $50 knife. At first I didn't think I would like it because the locking system made it difficult to open. But after about 10 minute or so, you get a feel for how to open it and now I can open it very fast. It came very sharp out of the box. The handle grips very well and the blade locks up good and strong. Very happy with the purchase.

CRK Quality
I am a retired custom knife maker that made fixed blade knives for years. I have a good knowledge of knives & especially quality, as I am a perfectionist. I carried a fixed blade knife that I had made for many years. Unfortunately, people will frown upon a person if they see you have a knife on your belt. I stopped carrying a knife for a couple of years...but missed it greatly. I searched folding knives for some time, & then I purchased my first Columbia knife. An M16Z "flip open" as a personal carry knife. A knife that I could use & enjoy that would not be so offensive to the naive. I was very impressed with the quality for the price. I have recently purchased my second CR knife...A fire spark assisted open as I wanted a larger blade. Once again...a very good quality knife for the price. The blade opens fast, & is very sharp from the box. The "sounds" of the mechanism is good...there is no play in the blade. I am very happy with this knife. As for cons....the only things I can think about is that I would like the handles to have a more meaty feel. The blade of the fire spark has a false edge on the back...I think it should be made from thicker stock. I would like to see CRKT make knives from higher quality steel such as ATS-34 to RC 58-59 hardness.....Myself, I would pay extra for this. OK...overall....CRKT knives are very good quality for price. I will soon purchase my 3rd. & 4th. knife.

Great Knife
This is a great all around knife. It has a good feel in the hand and gives the user a sense of a sturdy, reliable knife. It came razor sharp out of the box, and the "Fire Spark" opening system is lightening fast. It also has a special feature that allows the user to lock the blade in the open position for extended use. Be aware though, that this knife is on the large side and if you are a big guy with big hands, you are going to love this knife. I have mine on a lanyard and use it as an EDC. Truly a work of art.
