Tom Krein is a young custom knifemaker who has created quite a stir with his Mid Tech Dogfish neck knife. It seemed like the perfect affordable CRKT production knife, so here it is. Tom has a great sense of style, so unlike many skeletonized flat blades, the Dogfish is graceful, gives a secure grip, and also has that dogfish face at the pommel which turns out to be—a lanyard hole and bottle opener! It has a secure finger choil and friction grooves at the thumb spine and near the butt.

E.D.M. wire cut it from a single piece of high-carbon stainless steel, bevel grind the 2.25” modified Wharncliffe blade, give it a fine bead-blast finish and add a Razor-Sharp edge.

You also get a custom-fitted six-eyelet Kydex sheath that grips the knife securely for inverted carry with the neck chain included. It’s a useful, friendly minimal knife that’s a great value.

Pros: Blade Material, Blade Sharpness, Overall Quality, Sheath/Scabbard
Cons: None
Smaller than expected
Bought this as a rescue knife for my life jacket. If it were an inch and a half longer, it would work. As it is, it's a nice lightweight utility knife. Sheath hold the blade well. This will end up as a back up knife for river rescue, or as a utility knife for hiking.

A Bargain At The Price
For the price this is a great buy. Columbia River makes nice knives in general. You won't even notice it wearing it under a shirt with the included neck chain. The belt loop can be mounted for horizontal or vertical carry and the kydex sheath holds the knife well. The handle is on the small side but not unduly so given the overall design and intended use of the knife. The bottle opener on the handle is a nice touch as are the various cutouts and holes in the grip that can be used for lashing/lanyard, etc. My knife needed a bit of work with a fine stone to get it shaving sharp, but otherwise I'm perfectly happy with this purchase.

CRKT DogFish
This little thin sheath knife was way worth the money. It is on the smaller side but it's design is sturdy and the blade is incredibly sharp for how little the cutting edge is. I purchased two on sale and I don't regret it at all. I carry one to work since it's so slim and my Dad wears his around his neck on paracord when he goes shopping. The only complaint I have is the cheap metal necklace provided for using the blade as a neck knife. You will replace it with paracord for more comfort and silence while wearing it.
