CRK480KKP: K480KKP Shenanigan Z
We asked Ken Onion, Hawaiian custom knife maker, designer, inventor and member of the Blade Magazine Hall of Fame, to give us his ideas for a no-nonsense line of sport and work folders. Our goal was to offer great utility and quality in a rugged high-value locking liner folder.

Ken came up with a work knife version featuring an almost indestructible glass filled nylon frame that we call the Shenanigan Z. Even though Ken is known for his assisted opening folders, in this case, the combination of the open-build frame, blade flipper, and lubrous washers and bronze bushings at the pivot allow for fast one hand opening in an exceptional knife. All models feature 3.25" long blades with a classic Ken Onion profile.

There is a modified drop point with a slight recurve and a swedged top edge. The stainless steel liner lock is a strip lock, inset into one handle to save weight. This makes for a knife that is exceptionally strong, lightweight and comfortable.

Shenanigan Z offers our workhorse AUS 8 blade steel in a bead-blast finish, plus a frame of tough, glass filled nylon. This is a rugged, value-priced knife that can be used daily on the job. It is one that will take the worst abuse from impacts, abrasion, and solvents and still look good. The combination of contoured handle, index finger notch and checkered grip pattern make the Shenanigan models very friendly to the hands.

Both models come with a thoughtfully designed custom stainless steel pocket/gear clip with a black corrosion-resistant coating.

Ken Onion isn't playing any tricks here. CRKT is pulling the Shenanigans.

Pros: Pocket Clip, Ease of Opening, Lock Type, None
Cons: Handle Feel, Handle Material, Overall Quality
A larger frame and blade than I was expecting
I was hoping to have a new EDC, however this knife is just to large, which isn't bad if your looking for a bigger knife. I am comparing this knife to my recently purchased Kershaw 3830, with a 3 1/2 " blade. The Shenanigan 3 1/4" blade is longer? The Kershaw has a better blade shape, a heavier liner lock and a much better handle material, both at the same price. The Kershaw does not have a flipper and is a point up pocket clip, I prefer the point down clip, and I like a flipper. However I feel the Kershaw is a much better made knife, in my opinion.

Pros: Blade Material, Handle Feel, Pocket Clip, Overall Quality, Weight, Handle Material, Blade Sharpness
Cons: Lock Type, None
Excellent quality for the price
This knife can pack a punch, is very sharp, easy to sharpen and has a really good fit for my bigger hands. I play with it constantly while watching a movie. It's also a very nice price so if it breaks through some heavy duty you can easily buy a new one.
