Description
CRM1602Z: M16-02Z- Tanto - Designed by Kit Carson
CRKT

For years, Kit Carson's M16® designs have been our most popular series. And our Z version has built the largest user base of all. These knives are built for function, not fad. And they are exceptional values.

The M16®-02Z and M16®-12Z are tough little bulldogs, with 3.00" dual grind Tanto-style blades.

They use our very successful InterFrame construction, tough, textured glass filled nylon scales over a 420J2 stainless steel liner InterFrame. We overbuild it for rigidity, using solid glass filled nylon back spacers. And we assemble the handle with superior offset Torx® fasteners. The handle is exceptionally rigid and fills the hand perfectly.

We use our tough AUS 4 high-carbon stainless steel for the blades to give greater everyday utility, and offer both Razor-Sharp and Combined Razor-Sharp and Triple-Point™ Serrated edges.

All models feature the Carson Flipper, which is not only an aid to opening the blade, especially when wearing gloves, but acts as a blade guard when the blade is open.

We've also incorporated our patented* AutoLAWKS™ automatic knife safety into all models, which converts the M16 Z series into virtual fixed blades when their blades are open and locked.

All styles have lubrous washers and a removable stainless steel clothing/gear clip.

Think of the M16-Z as a Clydesdale—ready to rush a knight into battle or pull a beer wagon. Every day. Day after day.

Great Knife!
I love my new knife. I've owned it a little over a month so for and it's great. I really like the lock system it has and it came out of the box plenty sharp for me.

Cons: Ease of Opening, Lock Type, Lock Ease of Use, None
Tough but flawed.
I wanted this as a durable work knife. For my purposes it needed to be easy to cary, easy to open and close one handed and have a durable and useful blade. This knife meets all the requirements save one. It is very difficult to close one handed and hard to open. The AutoLAWKS is extremely annoying and difficult to manipulate one handed. I realize it offers some safety advantages should I somehow depress the frame lock while using the knife. However, the frame lock is stiff and I have not had that happen on a folding knife yet. I have had frame locks fail to lock because of dirt or other debris, but the AutoLAWKS would not help in that circumstance since the frame lock would have to fully engage before the AutoLAWKS engages. Useless gimmick. In addition they have added a little resistance to the initial opening of the knife so that it will flick open like an assisted opener. Unfortunately it makes not only hard to open, but it even harder to smoothly open the knife, another dubious "feature" I could do without. I'll probably still use it though I may "disable" the AutoLAWKS, but I am disappointed in the knife.

Great knife, buy this knife
Easy to open, easy to use, small enough to carry, stays open till you close it. Closing it is a snap after you pratice it a few times. A great everyday knife.
