CRM1613SFG: Carson M16 Special Forces - Tanto Combo Edge - G10 Handle
Columbia River Knife & Tool

Special knives designed with military special forces in mind, the M16-SF's are "folding fixed blades." G10 InterFrame build.

These knives share a unique design offering a combination of Carson M16 Series features requested by military procurement specialists. The dual grind Tanto blades were specified because they offer maximum strength. The open build allows two Carson Flippers to be incorporated, resulting in a true hilt— very rare in folding knives.

Blade, frame and hardware are non-reflective tactical black. Blades receive black titanium nitride coating for maximum corrosion resistance. Kit’s trademark dual checkered thumb studs are standard. On all models, one-hand opening and closing is quick and smooth.

All SF models feature our exclusive patented* AutoLAWKS™ automatic safety, which turns the folders into virtual fixed blades automatically.

Our aluminum frame SFs feature contoured scales of textured, hard anodized 6061 T6 aluminum, with a perimeter radius for a comfortable grip with or without gloves, stainless steel liners with friction grooves, and premium AUS 8 stainless steel blades. Combined Razor-Sharp and Triple-Point™ Serrated edges are standard

These G10 models feature scales of black G10, stainless steel liners with friction grooves, and premium 8Cr14 stainless steel blades with our exclusive Combination Veff™ Serrations. G10 is often preferred for its aggressive gripping texture, light weight, and superior insulating properties.

M16®-13SFG Slim Profile G10. This model is similar in features and dimensions to the M16-13SF.

All knives in this series are equipped with clip options that allow four-position carry on belts or webbing. Caution: These knives are not designed for tip-up in-pocket carry. They are special knives, designed by the military for special forces use.

About the Knife Designer
Kit Carson of Vine Grove, Kentucky, is a retired professional soldier, rising to the level of Sergeant Major. He has made knives for 30 years and has been a full-time knifemaker since 1993. He is a voting member of the Knifemakers’ Guild. Kit has been an avid hunter and fisherman for over 40 years, growing up enjoying the woods and trout streams in the mountains of north Georgia. About his philosophy of knife design, he says: “I strive to follow form and function in the knives I design and build. My reputation has been built around solid working knives, both fixed blade and folders. All the time spent outdoors as a young man and the time spent around the world with the Army has strongly influenced the knives I create.” Nothing reflects this approach more than the Carson Design of our M16 series, which is built for function, not to follow fads. This highly successful knife series was named one of the Top 10 Factory Tactical Folders of the Decade by Blade magazine. The M16-14M recently won a comparison test conducted by Germany’s Messer magazine.

Pros: Overall Quality, Lock Type, Lock Ease of Use, Handle Feel, Ease of Opening
Cons: None
Great out of the box
I use this for EDC but want something that might scare away a criminal or god-forbid help me defend myself, that's EDC for ya. Right out of the box I found it deploys and closes very smoothly. This is my first knife with the AutoLawk and, for as much as others complained about this feature, I find it very easy to close even with a stiff right thumb (broken then healed badly). To close it, I use my middle finger to hold down the red Autolawk latch while using my thumb to move in the liner lock, then I use my index finger to pull the top of the blade (just forward of top hilt) in towards the handle while moving my thumb out of the way. Much easier and faster than it sounds and it only took me about 4-5 attempts to figure it out. Deployment is easy with simple wrist action (after using index finger to 'pop' blade out via the bottom hilt) or using the top hilt to change my pocket edge as I pull it out just like Emerson's Wave feature (love this kind of deployment, super quick and easy just need practice). So far I just leave it in my pocket with the blade face up to do that (not using clip because it's in wrong position for that but eventually I will find the right bit to change the clip so I can clip in that position). Construction and materials seem quality for the price, cuts so far are sufficient. Like Veff serrations. The blade is not very sharp compared to some out of the box but sharpening a factory blade is a given to me. Overall exactly what I wanted and am very happy. Great bang for the buck!

Pros: Blade Material, Lock Ease of Use, Lock Type, Overall Quality, Handle Material, Handle Feel, Ease of Opening, Blade Sharpness
Cons: Pocket Clip, None
Excellent tanto knife
I use the knife for everyday and camping use and it's is excellent. I love the multi purpose of the tanto, self edge and serrated section. Along with the style just makes it a excellent knife to have. The box is a nice small one nothing bulky and even displays for those who serve in bold on top. Pocket clip seemed too strong at first to fit on any fabric. Bit is will probably loosen with wear
