Description
CRM2114: M21-14 Aluminum Folder - Designed by Kit Carson
CRKT

When a series like Kit Carson's aluminum-handled line has been so successful, it is bound to spark calls for variations. In this case, the request was for a deep-bellied spear point blade with recurve. We call the hefty M21-04 and M21-14 models with 3.875" blades, "Big Dogs."

The swedged and recurved blade is ground to a spear point shape, using premium AUS 8 stainless steel in non-reflective frost finish to offer superior edge retention. The grind incorporates a false top edge and deep belly, yet retains a full width central spine for most of its length for maximum strength. We offer both Razor-Sharp and Combined Razor-Sharp and Triple-Point™ Serrated edge grinds.

Lubrous washers at the blade pivot assure velvety-smooth one-hand opening and closing, using Kit Carson's trademark dual checkered thumb studs which also act as a blade stop.

M21™ models feature the very popular "Carson Flipper" blade extension, which aids opening and acts as an additional blade guard.

Kit Carson's open build uses contoured handles of 6061 T6 aluminum, hard anodized charcoal gray. They are CNC machined with a perimeter radius for a comfortable grip with or without work gloves, skeletonized to reduce weight. There is a single stainless steel locking liner with friction grooves for positive locking.

We have also incorporated our patented* AutoLAWKS™ automatic knife safety into all M21 models, which converts them into virtual fixed blades when their blades are open and locked.

Every model features a removable stainless steel clothing/gear clip. All fasteners, including the clip screws, are Torx®.

So there you have it. If you love the Carson line, but your work tasks demand a deep-bellied blade, the M21 is the series for you. Same premium build, same functional features, same long life, same excellent value.

Pros: Overall Quality, Lock Ease of Use, Blade Material, Blade Sharpness, Handle Feel, Handle Material, Lock Type
Cons: Pocket Clip, None
Great knife and worth the money invested
I bought the smaller version years ago and loved it but with my work, I purchased the larger version which fits the bill. I agree the LAWKS system takes some getting used to but, like any tool, with some practice it can easily be closed one handed. I got one for my nephew before he deployed and had a hard time keeping it from his friends. The weight, balance, and blade shape make work with most materials easy.. I plan on enhancing my M21 collection as time allows. Keep it up. My one and only regret is that they don't allow for tip up carry like they do on the SF model which would allow the flipper to snag on the pocket for quicker deployment

Great Knife
This is a larger knife, but every thing I have come to expect from Columbia. Well made great fit and finish. I use it as an EDC and this knife might be a bit big for some guys to use as an EDC. Overall I am quite pleased with the knife.

Cool Non-USA Knife.
I believe this is the only knife I own that's not made in the USA, but since it came from a company with a good rep and from a designer with an even better rep, I figured I couldn't go wrong for under $70.00. And, I was right. The whole knife screams cool, flipper action is fast, responsive and even works well with the knife held straight up. Lock up is decent, liner lock is a little thin, and I wouldn't want to bet my life on it but for what I'm carrying it for it works for me. I’m not a big fan of the LAWKs system, in my opinion it actually impairs ease of closing the knife, to the point where it becomes easier just to use 2 hands rather than struggle with it. And how it makes the knife into a fixed blade I haven’t even be able to figure out. To be honest, I’m not sure what it’s purpose is except to prevent accidental closure of the knife blade. The blade shape, thickness, sharpness, and finish are well done. The handle has a few points on it that bite the user’s hand but it’s not overly uncomfortable. For a large knife, over 9 inches, I’d say the ergos and weight distribution are decent. My biggest complaint is the pocket clip; its positioned is way too low for such a big knife. I prefer knives to ride low in my pocket and this being a tip down knife, the pivot end being much bigger, causes it to have too much knife sticking out of my pocket. Overall, I'd buy another one and I would recommend buying one to a friend.
