Description
CRM402: Carson M4-02
Columbia River

Custom knifemaker and Knifemakers' Guild member Kit Carson is widely known for his M16® design, which we offer in many CRKT production models. But since 1990, Kit's most consistent selling custom model has been his classic M4™. In his usual unassuming manner, Kit says, "I guess you'd say it's my flagship custom. It's simple, with form following function. No tricks that look slick but aren't worth a flip in your hand. I've made many variations on it, from exotic collectibles to working tacticals, in maybe 20 versions. But I still get more and more calls to make the M4."

This year we're offering the M4 design in Kit's smaller every day carry (E.D.C.) size. The new M4™-02 lightweight model features white bone scales and contrasting black G10 bolsters, hand contoured like a Carson custom. (A LAWKS® safety cannot be fitted with this bolster.)

While we were engineering it, we decided to add some more value by offering our OutBurst® assisted opening. The OutBurst mechanism instantly springs the blade fully open after you have opened the blade approximately 30 degrees. M4 models have dual thumb studs for ambidextrous one-hand opening and bronze and Teflon® bearings at the adjustable blade pivot for smooth, fast action.

The 3.25" blade is a high-hollow-grind drop point of premium 8Cr13MoV stainless steel in a bead-blast finish with a Razor-Sharp edge.

Our heavy-duty InterFrame build is true to Kit's design, with dual stainless steel liners, one locking, and a stainless steel back spacer.

All M4 models have high-mounted pocket/gear clips.

So here you have a friendly E.D.C. knife that fits the hand naturally for all kinds of cutting and carving tasks. Like Kit, it's a bit unassuming, but it's a knife you'll come back to year after year.

Beautiful knife
Absolutely gorgeous knife. Not really a "working" knife, too pretty for that, but, very nice and SHARP! Typical CRKT-great stuff

Classy knife for the money but not perfect...
The cosmetic appearance of this knife if fantastic. The bone has some nice character and the G10 bolsters are well done. There are some very minor fit issues with the scales but this is very much expected on a knife in this price range and not at all noticeable by non knife geeks. The blade was reasonably sharp but not what I would consider SHARP--I basically expect to have to sharpen every knife I get, right our of the box to meet my standards, so it is not a real issue. Lock up was nearly perfect for a liner-lock with the lock bar engaging about 1/4 of the way across the width of the blade and there is absolutely no noticeable blade play. The only real complaints I have is that the serrations on the thumb ramp were too sharp for me and I sanded them down and the action is stiff enough that the thumb studs are not really sufficient to open the knife with one hand. I would prefer no thumb studs and no assisted opening to be truthful. This is a beautiful knife that any non knife geek would love to have. I have received more compliments on this knife than any that I have carried in quite a while and I would recommend buying one.

Really nice EDC
Use as everyday carry. Great snap opening and safety, after a little practice with the opening. Needed a little polishing on edge out of box, but I'm fussy. Nice siize and feel for edc/
