CS27TLCH: Recon 1 Clip Point 50/50 Edge
Cold Steel

Cold Steel is famous for raising the bar in the knife industry and our Recon 1 tactical folders are setting a standard that's hard to beat. Why? Because they are as tough as nails and will cut like a chain saw! Every facet of their construction has been over engineered to make them as strong, durable and effective as humanly possible. The blades are made out of imported Japanese AUS 8A stainless steel that's been vacuum heat treated and sub-zero quenched and the handles feature G-10 laminate scales artfully contoured and scalloped for a terrific non slip grip. Plus, they are held together by the latest in high strength mechanical fasteners and further anchored by a 6061 heat-treated spacer. To compliment their super tough blades and handles they are equipped with our revolutionary Tri Ad lock (see page 4), which practically precludes lock failure.

To compliment their tactical mission we have given each blade a tough, black, Teflon finish. Our testing has shown this coating offers three major advantages for tactical blades. First, it helps the blade to resist rust. Second, it eliminates glare and light reflections, which may give its user away. And third, it's a superior lubricant, which causes the blade to slip through even tough material with markedly less friction. This means you can cut deeper and far longer than with a non-Teflon coated blade. To make the Recon 1 as easy to open and carry as possible we have equipped each knife with a thumb disc and small extra strong pocket clip. This clip is completely ambidextrous so lefties please take note. What's more its small size doesn't abrade or irritate the palm under protracted use.

Thin, light, sharp and incredibly tough, the Recon 1 is willing and able to aid you on your next mission!

Pros: Overall Quality, Handle Feel, Blade Sharpness, Blade Material, Weight, Handle Material, None
Cons: Pocket Clip, Ease of Opening, Lock Ease of Use
Very Good EDC Knife
When I first received this Recon 1, I was surprised at how light it felt, considering its size. At first, I was concerned that it was too fragile, as the handle does not have metal liners. After using it daily for the past few months, the Recon 1 grew on me and it is much more sturdy than anticipated. It came from the factory razor sharp, and the combo blade is useful for a wide variety of applications. After cutting down several large cardboard boxes, I decided to resharpen the blade with my Spyderco sharpening system. It sharpens easily, and I quickly brought the blade back to its factory sharpness. Pros: Great blade shape Very good edge retention Combo blade is extremely useful in multiple applications G10 handles are very grippy, whether wet or dry Blade coating held up well after moderate use Cons: Very tight clip catches on the handle stippling... can fray clothing (may sand it down) The lock system makes deployment tricky, as the blade has counter pressure that causes the blade to close (up to roughly 40 degrees from the closed position). This creates a guillotine effect which could cause injury if you're not paying attention. Overall, for the price, this is an exceptional knife that I do not mind beating up... saving my more expensive Emerson, Zero Tolerance, Microtech and Protechs for lighter duty.

Excellent EDC Knife
Was looking for a replacement of a lost Emerson knife, and having seen how much their price had risen from 5 years ago, decided to look around for something more affordable, but with a solid reputation. I found it with the Recon 1. Great grip, although some think the texture is too aggressive, I find it provides a reliable grip. The lock up is as some suggest, like a bank vault. Blade, hair popping sharp. Comes with an additional pocket clip if you wish to reverse position. The only faults I find are minor. I feel the pocket clip is too short, would prefer one twice a long. Secondly, I think it should be made to carry it tip down if you prefer. Small gripe, but not a deal killer. In all, a great EDC knife, a workhorse built like a Clydesdale.
