CS27TLCH: Recon 1 Clip Point 50/50 Edge
Cold Steel

Cold Steel is famous for raising the bar in the knife industry and our Recon 1 tactical folders are setting a standard that's hard to beat. Why? Because they are as tough as nails and will cut like a chain saw! Every facet of their construction has been over engineered to make them as strong, durable and effective as humanly possible. The blades are made out of imported Japanese AUS 8A stainless steel that's been vacuum heat treated and sub-zero quenched and the handles feature G-10 laminate scales artfully contoured and scalloped for a terrific non slip grip. Plus, they are held together by the latest in high strength mechanical fasteners and further anchored by a 6061 heat-treated spacer. To compliment their super tough blades and handles they are equipped with our revolutionary Tri Ad lock (see page 4), which practically precludes lock failure.

To compliment their tactical mission we have given each blade a tough, black, Teflon finish. Our testing has shown this coating offers three major advantages for tactical blades. First, it helps the blade to resist rust. Second, it eliminates glare and light reflections, which may give its user away. And third, it's a superior lubricant, which causes the blade to slip through even tough material with markedly less friction. This means you can cut deeper and far longer than with a non-Teflon coated blade. To make the Recon 1 as easy to open and carry as possible we have equipped each knife with a thumb disc and small extra strong pocket clip. This clip is completely ambidextrous so lefties please take note. What's more its small size doesn't abrade or irritate the palm under protracted use.

Thin, light, sharp and incredibly tough, the Recon 1 is willing and able to aid you on your next mission!

The original locking mechanism. It can be found mid spine or at the bottom of the handle, and it provides tight lockup that will wear well.

Great Investment
This knife is an amazing knife and for just over 70 bucks you buying more than your moneys worth. This knife comes razor sharp and the knife will hold up for years. Buy this knife NOW! THe only thing I could critisize is that the pocket clip is on the g-10 scales and that makes it difficult to use but could easily be smoothed out and is not something that should deter you from buying it.

The perfect working folder (plain edge clip point)
With the most aggressive G10 scales I have ever felt, finger grooves, and an integral guard, this thing isn't leaving your hand until you want it to. The scales are very flat. The knife is just a hair thicker than a Spyderco Endura and a lot thinner than a Cold Steel Voyager or Benchmade Griptilian. The jimping on the spine side of the handle is mostly decorative but you really don't need any more control. You will need to lightly sand the G10 under the pocket clip to avoid destroying your clothes. Keep in mind that G10 dust is highly toxic. I use 320 grit wet or dry paper with a lot of water. The pocket clip is designed to give the appearance of a smaller knife. From the box, this knife has perfect lockup, with no play in any direction with any amount of force. Blade centering is perfect. The blade coating, a type of painted finish, was applied with perfect evenness. I haven't use this knife enough to wear on the finish yet, but my other Recon 1 had the coating flaking off in only weeks of moderate use. It has a stone wash under the coating like the Voyager series. I had a half dozen Tri-Ad equipped knives and they are almost impossible to break. The blade might give before the lock. The edge geometry is fantastic and very slicey, with a great edge from the factory. It does very well for food prep and outdoor use. You could use this for skinning if you felt like disassembling it to clean it out later. Cold Steel's AUS-8 rusts a bit easily for a stainless steel, takes a very fine edge, keeps it a reasonably long time, and sharpens easily. I wouldn't mind a choil similar to a Spyderco Manix - it's over an inch between your index finger and the edge. The point of balance is right at the index finger groove. All screws are secured with loc-tite. The Tri-Ad lock takes a little force to unlock, but it feels incredibly secure and I've never had a problem closing these one-handed (and I'm female without a ton of hand strength). Depress the lock, tilt the knife so the unsharpened base of the blade stops against your index finger, move your fingers out of the way and finish closing with your thumb or a little inertia. Overall, the Tri-Ad equipped Cold Steel knives are the toughest folders out there right now, but you are giving up steel quality, you have to lightly mod the handle scales, and the blade finish is not durable. The perfect hard use beater that takes durability over edge retention.

very strong knife. very tight
very sharp blade and very nice locking mechanism. you know its gonna last as soon as you get it. at first it was very tight and the release was very stubborn. after playing with it for a week it broke in nice and works flawlessly. i use it as an EDC and am very happy with it. if i ever need to defend myself or get something done i can depend on this knife although i would like a piston lock and an assisted opening. if they added those features this would be a rock solid perfect knife.
