Description
CS27TLT: Recon 1 Tanto Point Plain Edge
Cold Steel

Cold Steel describes this item as follows:

Cold Steel is famous for raising the bar in the knife industry and our Recon 1 tactical folders are setting a standard that's hard to beat. Why? Because they are as tough as nails and will cut like a chain saw! Every facet of their construction has been over engineered to make them as strong, durable and effective as humanly possible. The blades are made out of imported Japanese AUS 8A stainless steel that's been vacuum heat treated and sub-zero quenched and the handles feature G-10 laminate scales artfully contoured and scalloped for a terrific non slip grip. Plus, they are held together by the latest in high strength mechanical fasteners and further anchored by a 6061 heat-treated spacer. To compliment their super tough blades and handles they are equipped with our revolutionary Tri Ad lock (see page 4), which practically precludes lock failure.

To compliment their tactical mission we have given each blade a tough, black, Teflon finish. Our testing has shown this coating offers three major advantages for tactical blades. First, it helps the blade to resist rust. Second, it eliminates glare and light reflections, which may give its user away. And third, it's a superior lubricant, which causes the blade to slip through even tough material with markedly less friction. This means you can cut deeper and far longer than with a non-Teflon coated blade. To make the Recon 1 as easy to open and carry as possible we have equipped each knife with a thumb disc and small extra strong pocket clip. This clip is completely ambidextrous so lefties please take note. What's more its small size doesn't abrade or irritate the palm under protracted use.

Thin, light, sharp and incredibly tough, the Recon 1 is willing and able to aid you on your next mission!

Cons: None
Owned this knife for three years now
I usually don't follow up with reviews but I will in this case. This is my second version of this knife. I originally purchased the serrated version, but I didn't like the style of serrations with the teeth being too close together. I bought the plain blade version of this knife three years ago and haven't looked back yet. I carry this knife every day and have taken it on two deployments. The handles have yet to lose any grip or show any wear. The metal surfaces have some wear, but it is mostly finish that has worn off, showing some shiny surfaces. The blade has some wear, mostly from the abuse I put it through, small nicks and dings on the back of the blade, mostly. I don't go out and beat it without reason, but use it constantly. It is a convenient tool first and a self defense item second. I have zero doubts it can do both. After the second year, the locking mechanism started to bind a bit, but some simple cleaning with a q-tip and light coat of oil took care of that. None of the screws have come loose like most of the other knives I've bought. I've tried other knives but always come back to this one. This is the knife I measure all other folding knives against. The price of this knife has gone up since I first bought it (I think around $65 or so) and it has held its value. Other folding knives I've tried are Gerber, CRKT, Boker, and Zero Tolerance. While these are good in their own right, I always go back to my Recon 1 because of it's construction, durability and design. There are a few things I would like to see improved, but I would continue to use and recommend this knife.

great work knife
i bought my knife for work and nothing but. i have used it too pry out doors, hold doors open, cut tons of wire, take off metal shaving off a flat piece of metal plat. hell even as a hammer. after reading this you must think this you might think the knife is now long gone. nope its still here and still has its edge a bit dull now but after a sharpening session its brand practically new.

Solid Knife
I also own the AK and both of these knifes are exactly what you want from a hard use folder. When you compare the lock up to say a spyderco endura the spyderco is weak. The tri-add lock is one of the best there is.
