CS27TLT: Recon 1 Tanto Point Plain Edge
Cold Steel

Cold Steel describes this item as follows:

Cold Steel is famous for raising the bar in the knife industry and our Recon 1 tactical folders are setting a standard that's hard to beat. Why? Because they are as tough as nails and will cut like a chain saw! Every facet of their construction has been over engineered to make them as strong, durable and effective as humanly possible. The blades are made out of imported Japanese AUS 8A stainless steel that's been vacuum heat treated and sub-zero quenched and the handles feature G-10 laminate scales artfully contoured and scalloped for a terrific non slip grip. Plus, they are held together by the latest in high strength mechanical fasteners and further anchored by a 6061 heat-treated spacer. To compliment their super tough blades and handles they are equipped with our revolutionary Tri Ad lock (see page 4), which practically precludes lock failure.

To compliment their tactical mission we have given each blade a tough, black, Teflon finish. Our testing has shown this coating offers three major advantages for tactical blades. First, it helps the blade to resist rust. Second, it eliminates glare and light reflections, which may give its user away. And third, it's a superior lubricant, which causes the blade to slip through even tough material with markedly less friction. This means you can cut deeper and far longer than with a non-Teflon coated blade. To make the Recon 1 as easy to open and carry as possible we have equipped each knife with a thumb disc and small extra strong pocket clip. This clip is completely ambidextrous so lefties please take note. What's more its small size doesn't abrade or irritate the palm under protracted use.

Thin, light, sharp and incredibly tough, the Recon 1 is willing and able to aid you on your next mission!

AUS-8 Stainless Steel
AUS-8 Stainless Steel
A very widely used EDC steel, AUS-8 can take a very nice edge while also maintaining moderate edge holding and corrosion resistance properties.
The original locking mechanism. It can be found mid spine or at the bottom of the handle, and it provides tight lockup that will wear well.
Pocket Clip
Pocket Clip
Includes a pocket clip for easy accessibility and a more secure carry.
G10 Handles
G10 Handles
Formed in a sheet under high pressure by combining fiberglass and an epoxy resin binder. These handles are lightweight and shaped to ensure a solid grip.

Pros: Blade Sharpness, Weight, Lock Type
Cons: Handle Feel, Pocket Clip, None
Expensive compared to Voyager series.
The Recon series of folding knives are tough and dependable, but i feel like the plain edge versions are overpriced, especially considering what the Voyager line costs.A Large Voyager tanto in BD-1 steel is only $55,why so much for an Aus8 Recon, with a poor blade coating? If you really want a Recon model,i HIGHLY suggest paying an additonal $20,and getting the XHP model Recon with the DLC coating..While it looks identical to the Aus8 model,it has a far superior blade steel, and blade coating.Or as i said earlier, save $25 and get a Voyager in BD-1 steel, which is also an upgrade from Aus8..There's no good reason to drop $80 on this Aus8 model Recon folder when you can get a much improved Recon in XHP steel and DLC coating for only $20 more..

Pros: Overall Quality, Blade Sharpness, Handle Feel, Weight, Lock Type, Ease of Opening, None
Cons: Pocket Clip
Great EDU knive
Carry and use for any job. Knive performs very well. Single hand opening is easier than anticipated based on other reviews, and closing is safed as it it should be (2 step) given the sharpness of the blade. Well designed and functional - very pleased.

Pros: Blade Material, Lock Type, Overall Quality, Pocket Clip, Ease of Opening, Handle Feel, Handle Material, Blade Sharpness
Cons: Weight, Blade Sharpness, Lock Ease of Use, None
Great Knife, only a few issues
After reading many reviews on a great knife under 100$ i decided on the recon 1. Its a great knife and many great features, it feels great in the hand and it came pretty sharp. When i got he knife there was a slightly different grind angle around the second point, which is easy enough to resharpen because of the softer aus8a steel. The only real downside to this knife is the blade coating and it has started to rub off already after a few large cardboard boxes. I haven't had to do any hard use tasks on this knife but im sure it could handle it with the triad lock. The lock up of this knife is great with the exception of some blade play after some use, which i am sure could be tightened up with a small torx set. The knife is only a 4 out of five because of the blade coating and the blade steel but for the price i dont think much can beat it! I would recommend that you buy this knife if you are thinking about it, even if you have moderate to no sharpening experience.
