Excellent knife you can beat the s*** out of.
Bottom line this knife is made to be abused. It's a big knife, has a long belly for long cutting strokes. The clip point is insanely strong too, very resistant to chipping despite the sharpness thanks to the hefty thickness of the blade. Many complain about the blade steel, but AUS8A is fantastic for a field knife. It holds an edge better than 1095 high carbon, is extremely corrosion resistant, and is soft enough to do a quick resharpen on a stone. Yes, you'll have to resharpen every few weeks if you use it hard, but with a blade this substantial that's a small price to pay. If anything, to me it adds to the whole ritual of owning a knife. Sharpening it makes you more comfortable with the blade, you have a better idea of the knife's properties. ONLY complaint I have is the knifes sheath. I have had "good" SucureEx sheaths where you can tip the sheath upside down with knife inside, and thanks to the "click" locking of the blade in the sheath, the blade won't fall out until you give it a slight tug. This sheath, it just falls right out. Not a huge problem, I tightened some screws here and there to get the desired effect but it just doesn't "fit" the knife perfectly. Honestly I would rather a good fabric molle sheath but that's my preference. All in all, if you need a reliable field knife, survival knife, camp knife, or military knife, this is a great inexpensive option you'll have until your retirement and beyond. Just keep that edge up ;)

Good Knife...
I received an SRK as a gift from a friend. It had been a bit abused when I took possession of it, as my friends and I never baby our tools. The only issue I might have is in the ability, or lack thereof, of the SRK to take a keen edge. It gets sharp, don't get me wrong here. Just not razor sharp. Fortunately I don't use this knife for finer work. I use it to process firewood. It really shines in that job. It's quite thick, so batoning is no trouble at all. And though I can't get the blade as sharp as I'd like, it will take a serviceable edge and hold that edge very well so it chops pretty dern good too. It's not so long as to be a pain to carry and I personally like the securex sheaths. This sheath is pretty weatherproof, reasonably durables, and hold the SRK snuggly and securely. All in all a good, though not very exciting, camp knife. Back to the edge. Retention is good but total sharpness bugs me. Depending on how anal you are about razor edges it may or may not even be an issue to you at all, but it IS the reason I can only give the SRK a four star grade.
