Another impressive Cold Steel!
Yet another great profuct from CS! I love how thick this knife is. When you hold it, you'll realize it's a nulky, tough workman's knife. The only thing I kind of wish for was a longer blade. If this came in like a 9 or 10 inch blade, I would easily classify it as the best manufactured blade on the market....well, I may still consider it that! Amazing blade.

It's overrated
This is a very basic piece of equipment. 7-8 inches of simple sharpened steel with a serviceable handle and sheath. Everybody should have such a knife. The problem is that there are plenty of other such knives for substantially less money, a few of which I've used extensively in the same way I've used this one, and which have performed as-well-or-better. The BK7 for example, or one of the similarly-sized Ka-bar knives, some of the better Ontario products, and even a couple Condor knives are worth looking at (and they are a lot less expensive). I have not had any major problems with my Recon Scout (although the blade coating came off in a hurry) and it has done what I expected it to do, but it hasn't performed any better than similar knives I got for under $100. If you are looking to spend between $100 and $150, get an ESEE instead. There is no good reason to spend $120 on a knife like this.

Lost its edge and it won't come back
For the money, the knife is a decent value. Though, let's be real, $120 isn't going to get you much when you know that there are $500 Bowie's out there in super steel that are that price for a reason. I've got a Fallkniven H1 in 3G and there is simply no comparison. I have brought this knife along on all my camping trips, and while it is a good chopper due to weight, knots will put a hurtin' on this blade. After my first trip with it, I had done a fair amount of chopping, and the blade had numerous nicks in it. I sent it back to Cold Steel for their "professional" sharpening, and while it came back nick free, it couldn't cut through a piece of paper, couldn't shave a single hair off my arm, and with quite a lot of pressure on my finger, won't even start to cut my skin. Too bad. Then I read about the fact that these used to be made in the US, but now they are made in Taiwan and the quality has simply gone down hill. I had to agree. Just a useless knife in my closet now. I'm buying the Fallkniven NL2 and will enjoy a truly hand crafted blade. I'm over Cold Steel and won't buy another cheap Taiwanese, mass produced product from them again.
