CS39LSFT: Leatherneck-Tanto
Cold Steel
The word 'Leatherneck' has become synonymous with the famous U.S. Marines since 1776 when Congress compelled all Marines to wear a thick, high leather collar (known in the vernacular of the day as a "stock"). This collar served two purposes; first, it helped protect one's neck from sword and cutlass blows, and second, it forced a Marine to keep his head up straight, exhibiting the military posture that was fashionable at the time.

Today, after two centuries of personal sacrifice on and off the battlefield, our Leathernecks enjoy the love, respect, and admiration of every true American and it is to them we dedicate this series of battle ready knives.

The series has two distinct blade styles. Both are made from German 4116 Stainless steel and finished with a rich Tuff-Ex&trage; non reflective coating:

The Leatherneck-SF (for Semper-Fi) has a saber ground clip point blade. It's hollow ground and honed by hand to a startling razor sharpness.

The Leatherneck-Tanto features a Cold Steel style Tanto blade. It's incredibly sharp blade is 7" long and hollow ground by hand.

To keep the fingers from sliding forward onto their keen edge, the Leathernecks come with a substantial guard. It's made of thick steel with double quillons that are turned slightly forward and provide excellent protection for your hand (especially in close combat) while offering minimal interference in the use of these knives when performing utility tasks.

The handles are made of deeply checkered Kraton® that totally encloses the knives' extra wide full tang. They offer unsurpassed gripping power through their palm hugging oval cross section and unique finger trough. They're capped with a thick, machined steel butt cap (not cheap casting like others) so they can also deliver frightful blows with the butt or double in an emergency as a hammer.

To carry the Leatherneck knives safely and conveniently in all environments, they come with a sturdy Secure-Ex sheath complete with fully detachable and ambidextrous belt loop.

Pros: Sheath/Scabbard, Finish, Overall Quality, Handle Material, Blade Material, Blade Sharpness
Cons: None
Really Sharp
I ordered this knife because I was so impressed with the traditional version of the CS "Leatherneck." As with the traditional version, the Tanto version effortlessly shaved hair off my arm right out of the box. The grip is extremely sure and comfortable, more so than a leather washer handle, even though the leather looks better and is more like the original Marine combat knife. I have read some negative reviews regarding the type of steel used in these knives, saying it is basically a kitchen knife steel, but I have also read that this steel is used for surgical and dental instruments. I can't see how it could be bad steel for a knife, although I am no metal expert. The blade is thick at the spine and the tang is also thick and very wide. It looks like a strong knife to me. The sheath on this one has good retention without the knife being difficult to draw. A knife like this could cost a lot more.

Excellent Knife
I love this Knife. I use it hunting, camping, fishing, and anything else I need to poke, prod, or cut. The Spine is thick, whitch allows me to pry with it (not something I recommend). Handle grips well, even with sweaty palms. And, it has a flat steel nob on the butt. This is great for pounding tent spikes. It also drives a mean Mumblety-peg, although the knife it's self is not very good for the game. To sharp for the fingers,
