CS39LSFT: Leatherneck-Tanto
Cold Steel
The word 'Leatherneck' has become synonymous with the famous U.S. Marines since 1776 when Congress compelled all Marines to wear a thick, high leather collar (known in the vernacular of the day as a "stock"). This collar served two purposes; first, it helped protect one's neck from sword and cutlass blows, and second, it forced a Marine to keep his head up straight, exhibiting the military posture that was fashionable at the time.

Today, after two centuries of personal sacrifice on and off the battlefield, our Leathernecks enjoy the love, respect, and admiration of every true American and it is to them we dedicate this series of battle ready knives.

The series has two distinct blade styles. Both are made from German 4116 Stainless steel and finished with a rich Tuff-Ex&trage; non reflective coating:

The Leatherneck-SF (for Semper-Fi) has a saber ground clip point blade. It's hollow ground and honed by hand to a startling razor sharpness.

The Leatherneck-Tanto features a Cold Steel style Tanto blade. It's incredibly sharp blade is 7" long and hollow ground by hand.

To keep the fingers from sliding forward onto their keen edge, the Leathernecks come with a substantial guard. It's made of thick steel with double quillons that are turned slightly forward and provide excellent protection for your hand (especially in close combat) while offering minimal interference in the use of these knives when performing utility tasks.

The handles are made of deeply checkered Kraton® that totally encloses the knives' extra wide full tang. They offer unsurpassed gripping power through their palm hugging oval cross section and unique finger trough. They're capped with a thick, machined steel butt cap (not cheap casting like others) so they can also deliver frightful blows with the butt or double in an emergency as a hammer.

To carry the Leatherneck knives safely and conveniently in all environments, they come with a sturdy Secure-Ex sheath complete with fully detachable and ambidextrous belt loop.

Pros: Finish, Blade Sharpness, None
Cons: Handle Material
Good value knife
I think with this selection you get a lot of knife for your money. It has a nice balance, but I feel the grip is a bit too rough. The sheets fits well - once placed into it the knife remains in place and don't rattle around. It feels heavy and sturdy.

Pros: Blade Material, Sheath/Scabbard, Handle Material, Weight, Finish, Overall Quality, Blade Sharpness
Cons: None
Wanted a large tanto & super-happy I chose this one. Selected the 4116 steel model because I live in coastal MS, plus 4116 is quite a good blade steel for the price. Mine was sharp when it arrived and with little effort, is now shaving sharp. Cannot testify as to edge retention of this blade, but generally, 4116 does well in that respect. This knife feels great in my large hand. Take a look down the spine! Full width is maintained to within 1/2" of the tip. That is strong! Did I mention the sheath? One of, if not the very best I have ever seen. Easy in or out except that that there is a small catch just as the knife reaches almost all the way in. You can feel it snap in or out. Once in, there is no slack or play, thus no rattle. Also, the sheath should only last 6 or 7 generations. I suppose that is long enough. Bottom line is, buy yourself one or more. Choose another blade steel if you wish, but you will be quite happy with this knife/sheath combination. They are GRRRREAT!!!!!
