CS53CC: 53CC Spike
Cold Steel
The Spike, designed by Barry Dawson, is a weapon pared down to its bare essentials. Its thick, narrow blade is distal tapered and flat ground to a zero edge. This creates a unique cross section that facilitates both penetration of the tip and cutting power previously unknown in such a thick, narrow blade. The integral handle of the spike complements its minimalist theme. It has been carefully shaped out of solid steel, wrapped with cord and had all of its sharp edges "melted" so they don't irritate the hand. Each spike comes with a sturdy Secure-Ex sheath and steel bead lanyard so you can wear it around your neck or lash it to a "D" ring, fanny pack, or other gear.

Good knife for a good price
slim construction, thick steel, solid feel. easy to conceal and a good fit in the sheath. could be sharper for my taste, as i tested it on some cardboard out of the box and had to saw at it. nothing my Lansky sharpener cant hone though. would be a great knife for someone with smaller hands as well.

Serious Steel, not so versatile.
I was obsessed with this knife. It was actually a toss up between Spike Drop Point, and Tokyo Spike. I went for the the drop point based on purity of form. True to form, this blade is for the splitting of meat ( self defense ) and not much else. It can plunge thru anything, and then split it into steaks. It is laser sharp out of the box, and the point is unmatched. Splitting a paper edge is not the best way to test its edge. Try shaving the paper edge, or penetrating a sheet of paper with the edge. I think the Tokyo spike model would have a little more versatility, and seem a little less steak-knifish. Although, this knife is a perfect last resort knife for women. The hilt of this model is wrapped in a small diameter fabric cord. I really love this finish, and it makes the spike seem like a tiny sword in your hand. I understand that the newest iteration of the Spike series, has s rubberized "safety handle" that I am sure I would hate. Overall, for under $30 this blade is very frightening and delivers exactly what the name implies. This is a blade for professionals, and not people who tend to bleed a lot, because if it ever touches flesh, there will be blood.
