CS95BBUSK: Bowie Blade Bushman, Secure-Ex Sheath w/ Fire Steel
Cold Steel®

For the money, the Bushman® knives might be the strongest survival/outdoor knives in the world! Unlike most hollow handled survival knives, there is no joint or seam between the blades and handles that requires a mechanical fastener. Instead, the Bushman’s® blades and integral handles are each expertly cold forged out of a single piece of 2.5mm thick SK-5 high carbon steel. The resulting knives are expertly heat-treated and tempered to RC54 and, when subjected to our tests, have withstood over two tons of pressure on their blade/handle transition!

Every Bushman® blade has been carefully ground to an extra thin edge, and then honed and buffed by hand until razor sharp. The Bushman® knives are versatile too! Their hollow handles will accept survival supplies or a variety of handle extensions which can maximize reach, leverage or ease of throwing. They feature continuously curved blades that are ideal for skinning, and will pierce, cut, slash, slice and shear like you won’t believe.

They come complete with the new heavy duty plastic Secure-Ex sheath which features an attached ferrocerium fire steel.

Low cost tool
This is a light weight , sharp knife with large cutting area. Purchased to help me get thru thorn bushes.etc. Would not use it to pry side to side ,but lengthwise its strong.

I ordered the Bowie Blade Bushman with a cordura sheath, along with another regular blade 7" Bushman with the Secure-Ex sheath. Upon opening the box, although the packaging indicated a Bowie, I found just another regular 7" Bushman with a cordura sheath. Well, at least the sheath part was right! The knife will be just fine, and is not worth the trouble of returning. The rating in no way reflects upon the quality of the Bowie Bushman, only on it's packaging.

Great value and fun to customize
The hollow handle (great for spear-making) and low cost of this knife drew me to it. It arrived as sharp as I'd expect it to be -- sharp enough out of the box to be put directly to use. That said, I always like to see a knife reach its maximum potential, so I did two things: (1) Using my Tormek grinder, I ground a long section of the spine flat so that it could throw great sparks using the included firesteel. (2) Using a 5-inch sanding wheel and adhesive-backed 320-grit sandpaper I convexed the edge. Both steps were easy and greatly improved the knife. The best part is this: Even if you're new to such customizations, this knife's low cost makes such experimentation affordable. On the off chance you ruin the blade (very unlikely) you're not out a lot of money. For this kind of money, there are no "Cons."
