Description
CS95FB: 95FB Pocket Bushman
Cold Steel

The Bushman® has been a mainstay of the Cold Steel line for more than a decade now. It's an economically simple design, with winning features like strength, versatility, and an affordable price. It's practically perfect! So, rather than upstage the Bushman, we've created a complement to it, a version small enough to carry with you everywhere you go. The Pocket Bushman.

While it's physically impossible for any folding knife to ever match the strength and rigidity of a fixed blade, we believe our Pocket Bushman, with its patent pending lock, is close to hitting the mark. The blade is long and wide with a short, sharp, clip point for usefulness and versatility. And it’s hollow ground from top to bottom with just enough belly to be useful for all sorts of tasks.

For the handle, we used the mono block construction method famously used in the French Douk Douk line of knives. There are several advantages to using the mono block. It's simple to mass-produce, and, since there are no liners, handle scales or back spacers, the end result is quite affordable. A single sheet of stainless steel is folded in half to form a housing for the closed blade, as well as supplying the enormous strength and rigidity required to complement our Ram Safe™ lock.

Andrew Demko designed the Ram Safe™ lock to work in tandem with the mono block handle. It features a unique, self adjusting ram that moves forward as the knife is opened and wedges itself tightly between the tang cut away we call the "shelf" and the "U" shaped "roof" of the handle. It's powered by a strong compression spring that urges the ram forward and makes for an incredibly strong lock up. Positive pressure on the lock generated by heavy cutting or chopping strokes is distributed through the blade, then the blade tang shoulder and finally directly into the mono block handle that acts like a giant unbreakable stop pin. Negative pressure from sticking, digging or prying with the point is directed in a different direction through the blade to the blade tang shelf and then to the ram which is squeezed between the shelf and the "U" shaped roof of the handle. Negative pressure easily defeats the vast majority of lock mechanisms. The only way the Ram Safe™ lock can be overcome is if the blade breaks or if the pivot pin is sheared off. Two situations that are highly improbable.

Pros: Lock Type, Blade Material, Handle Feel, Handle Material, Overall Quality, Weight, Lock Ease of Use, Blade Sharpness
Cons: None
You can never find a better blade at this price...
Usage: EDC. Light wood work, carton unboxing, camping, etc.. Satisfactory: Great! Let me just repeat this... You can never find a better blade at this price! Originally bought for the novelty of this locking mechanism. But once I received this I grew to love it more and more... why? - Razor sharp out of box - Single foil metal sheet handle: light, sturdy and feels good in hand - Solid locking mechanism, guarantee no blade play - Awesome blade polish (pleasing to the eyes) - Good edge retention, not too hard to resharpen - A very huge blade and able to withstand rough abuse - Too cheap for the quality I received (you will definitely need to pay 3-4 time more for an equivalent knife) Only draw back would be it's deployment and keep the blade... not everyone can open and close this blade with one hand...

Great for some, not for everyone.
I owned and carried this knife for a few years. I have a lot of good things, and bad things to say about it. The blade shape, grind and sharpness are top notch, exactly when I like in knife. Full flat ground, functional clip, good belly, and reasonable thick. The handle is very tough, and relatively slim for it's size. I enjoy a large and long handle to get better leverage when hacking/chopping, and because I have large hands. However, it is very uncomfortable to use when doing a lot of heavy carving. I tended to wrap a bandana or other material to wrap the handle in to keep my hand from getting sore. The handle also transmits a lot of vibrations when trying hack into hard/dried wood. The open/close mechanism is very stiff, but strong. It does wear in very well though. I am able to open it one handed, but it takes a lot of thumb strength. I know a lot of people who still can not do it one handed. Closing it is unique, and once practiced is easy, but absolutely requires two hands. Not something I like in a most folders. 4116 Krupp is a good steel for what it is, but AUS8 would've nicer. I would give this blade a 3 out of 5, except for the price. At a price point under $30, it is a great blade. That bumps it up a point in my books absolutely.

6 stitches
Great knife for the moola, just be really careful closing it. I had a few drinks and ended up with six stitches in my left index finger, nicked the nerve and the tendon. I know, I had read the reviews and thought I was too experienced to let such a thing happen, but it only takes one slip. But it's damn sharp, I'll tell ya that!
