CSB6255P: Professional 5 Ft .625 Super Heavy Duty Blowgun
Cold Steel

The blowgun or blowpipe has a long history that spans the globe. Many authorities believe it was first invented in Malaysia where it migrated through the Malaysian and Indonesian archipelago's finding its way to the Philippines and as far north as Japan. The blowgun, however, was not just a southeastern weapon; it also surfaced in the western hemisphere in the jungles of South and Central America, moving as far north as the southeastern United States.

Blowguns were originally invented to serve as a hunting weapon. They were used to bag small animals and birds, with small stones or hardened clay pellets being used for ammunition. Eventually, most hunters discovered that they could take much larger animals by the use of thin wooden darts that were laced with lethal poisons. The poison was derived from the sap of specially cultivated vines.

In the early 1960s and '70's, blowguns began to gain a small foothold in the United States. During this period, the Jivaro Blowgun Company ran a myriad of small advertisements for their .38 caliber blowgun. These were featured in the back of many adventure, gun and survival magazines. Eventually, in the late 1980's they faded away.

But the mystique of the blowgun itself did not fade away. Instead, a number of companies quickly jumped into the vacuum that was created by Jivaro's demise, and, by the early 90's, the market was flooded with a horde of cheap, poorly constructed blowguns. Most were sold as novelty items, with inefficient, short, 2 and 3 foot tubes made of paper-thin aluminum and firing an insipid .40 caliber dart. The only exception was the J.R. Stupero Company and their successor the J.W. McFarlin Company which sold an authentic hunting grade blowgun that was made of thick, strong Aluminum and was capable of propelling a heavy .625 Magnum dart.

In 1983, Cold Steel's President, Lynn C. Thompson, bought the first of the many .625 Magnum blowguns he would eventually own. He became an instant fan and has, over the last two decades, practiced exclusively with it. He has taken it on several hunting trips in the U.S. and has used it on three African Safari's! When the opportunity to acquire the J.W. Mcfarlin Company arose, Lynn purchased it outright, taking title to all of their trademarks and inventory.

Now, after a brief reorganizing period, we hereby inaugurate the birth of our new division; Big Bore Blowguns, home of the .625 Magnum. Big Bore Blowguns will specialize in large blowgun calibers like .625 Magnum because they are capable of shooting darts that are 20% faster and three times heavier then our competition. They offer vastly improved killing power compared to smaller, .40 caliber darts.

Since we are not interested in selling cheap, shoddy toys, we will concentrate on 4 and 5-foot blowguns. For extra accuracy and range, we sell a two-foot extension as an accessory. Both of the basic models come with a mouthpiece, rubber ferrule, dart quiver, and 36 darts (6 Stun Darts, 15 Mini Broad Head, and 15 Bamboo). We also sell a 3-inch thick high-density foam target for safer indoor practice.

Large caliber blowguns like our .625 Magnum have an effective range out to 20 yards or more. With practice, a skilled user can hit a two-inch circle at amazing distances, delivering a heavy weight dart. That's a payload easily capable of penetrating a half-inch sheet of plywood.

Accuracy and range like this enable an experienced hunter to take small game like doves, quail, squirrels and rabbits in complete silence without danger of over penetration or errant darts striking livestock or humans in the distance.

Shooting a blowgun is great fun. It is an activity that can be enjoyed indoors or out, in sunny or inclement weather. Skill with a blowgun can lead to many inexpensive hunting adventures and stand you in good stead in survival or self-defense situations. Try our new Big Bore .625 Magnum and you'll soon find yourself addicted to the fun of shooting the world's most powerful blowgun!

Professional .625 Blowguns

While our standard .625 Magnum Blowguns are awesome, we decided to raise the bar even higher with our Professional .625 models. Available in 4-foot and 5-foot lengths, they come with a target style mouthpiece and a 3mm thick barrel.

Yep! That makes them almost twice as thick, and 45% heavier than our standard model and clinches their title of heaviest, commercially made blowguns in the world.

Don't miss your chance to take advantage of the increase in accuracy offered by their great weight and rigidity. Don't miss out in the increased toughness they offer as an impact tool in a self-defense situation. Buy your Professional .625 Blowgun today!

Excellent build and quality
Love the 3 mil tubing, very tough, excellent packaging by knifecenter, quite accutare, smooth, great handle and overall craftsmanship. From research I know this model will not fit the extension from CS. But for me 5 ft is great size. I like the larger .625 caliber, good power. One gripe was the cones for the various darts were morphed out of shape and do not fit the blowgun. This is probably CS packaging and not knifecenter. However there is a simple fix of putting them in boiling water to resume shape and slight sanding of edges may be required to fit into the gun. A little work I wasn't expecting, but good to know beforehand. All in all I would still get it because of durability as these guns aren't going to get bent easily and will last a while. Good job knifecenter and CS.

Death by Blowgun
I cant get enough of this deadly weapon. "Treat it like a loaded Gun." Deadly and accurate, the Big Bore Blowgun finds its target. I use mine on everything from mice and bird to squirls and rabbits. Have a couple options on darts is great. The bamboo darts sting out at a long distance with little drop in flight. The mini broadheads have great penetration and bone breaking power on the small game. Do not rule out the Stun darts, they are super accurate a have huge power. I have harvested a lot of small game with my stun darts. One thing that should be put on the package is that the Big Bore Blowgun is not ment for indoor use. You will quickly find out that it is way to powerful.

They don't get much more versatile
This is amongst the finest commercially available primitive-type weapon you can buy. There's simply no power and accuracy comparison between this and those .40 blowguns that permeate the market. As for complaints about the supplied darts, I've not experienced any problems at all with the darts it came with or any that I've bought after. The broadhead darts are more than sufficient to take down a small animal. The bamboo will take down a bird from pigeon/dove size downward. The stun darts will kill a bird and are sufficient to chase off larger animals (caution! these things can penetrate hide and/or skin - they aren't for shooting at people or pets) -- if those aren't enough, I've taken Easton 1214 Jazz arrow shafts, cut them to 12", fletched them with 3" feather (3x120), inserted field points, capped the nock end with a bamboo dart and its driver.. they fly straight, fast, and hard. They will drive through anything smaller than a raccoon at 15 yards. They'd probably penetrate more than 8" on a person or large animal. This blowgun will also shoot 5/8" glass marbles with incredible force and speed. Useful when you need a projectile that isn't readily traced back to a weapon. Glass marbles shatter on hard impact. For target plinking its a very accurate shooter with enough cast to drive the bamboo darts accurate to about 20 yards. At 10 yards it's right on spot. It will put a bamboo dart into an aluminum can at 10 yards with no trouble. The broadhead dart will pass-through aluminum at that range. The stun dart will fully penetrate at least one side of a can. This IS NOT a toy. The end cap stopper is hard plastic and prone to crack. A standard walker/cane end cap fits it fine and is rubber. The driver heads aren't available as a stand-alone purchase. This makes it a little more complicated to make your own darts and arrows. Like any shooting sport skill - it will require practice to gain maximum accuracy and proficiency. Consistent breath support and exhalation force are essential to developing good aim and not everyone is capable of that sort of breath control. If you are, this can be a really good addition to your survival and recreational shooting kit.
