Excellent finishing stone
I think this is an excellent stone for the knife owner that demands a shaving sharp blade every day they walk out the door. It produces a good quality edge quickly, for the user that doesn't want to spend all the time and fuss dealing with natural stones or ceramics. Natural stones and ceramics will polish the edge better and leave a more refined edge, but after years of going that route I feel that using this diamond stone and following up with some stropping will produce very fine edge that is perfect for 99% of obsessive knife owners. This diamond stone will still leave some lasting scratch patterns on the edge though, so if you want to really ensure that those tiny rifts are smoothed out so that the edge lasts longer, you might want to do so good stropping.

Superb! (for the right tasks)
First, I've had this bench stone for over five years now. I've used it hundreds of times by now. BUT, I've ONLY used it for knives, so I don't know anything about using this for anything other than knives. Second, make sure you know what it is you're buying. That is, this stone is used for a knife that is already sharp enough to EASILY shave hair with. This is not for kitchen knives, or the like. Truthfully, this level of sharpness is rarely needed for any working knife. If you're unsure of what "grit" (or "mesh") values are, a 350 grit stone will easily sharpen a knife enough to shave hair; this one is 8000 grit! Use it after a 1000+ grit stone. Now, if you're looking for a stone that will get a knife just as sharp as you can get a piece of steel, well, this is it. In my opinion, IT WORKS WONDERFULLY. It reduces a tedious, long, process to about ten strokes per side. So, I highly regard this benchstone as it will get a knife sharper than most folks have ever seen a knife. Honestly, this will finish a knife to an edge that is MUCH sharper than a scalpel. It's impressive, I guarantee. But, then again, I have knife-sharpening OCD :) Good luck

Heavy
Tried it on ceramic blades. They do blunt, & if you can't sharpen it you don't really own it. Takes a while (gently) but got an edge & haven't snapped the blades yet. Hard to tell the front from the back, it's so smooth.
