Pros: Blade Sharpness, Ease of Opening, Handle Feel, Overall Quality
Cons: Pocket Clip, None
Beautiful for what it is designed for
I've recently been bitten by the blade bug. I'm in the process of applying for state law enforcement and I've been looking for great EDC gear to carry on my gear belt if and when I get into the field. After countless hours of product research, I stumbled upon the Emerson series of knives. Needless to say, I'm hooked. While this knife is not a great utility blade because of the chisel grind, that was not its designed purpose. It sounds dramatic, but these knives are designed to take a life or save a life. Nothing else. Cutting through other materials just happens to be an ancillary benefit of a sharp piece of steel. The sheer practically and engineering ingenuity that goes into Emerson's designs are admirable. Call me a fan boy, but no other knife manufacturer can claim better design and function than Emerson. Each characteristic of this knife has a purpose. It's simple, yet well thought out and premeditated. Nothing superfluous here. Build quality and fit are outstanding. Absolutely no blade play. However, in order to get it that way, you have to tighten the pivot screw pretty tight. I don't find this to be a problem because the only way I deploy this knife is with the wave feature, as it should be deployed. Finish could be better. I have to be honest. If you're looking for something pretty, look elsewhere. That being said, there's something beautiful about the simplicity of this knife. No gimmicks. The stonewash finish on the blade is, hands down, the best looking stonewash I've seen on a production blade. I'd be lying if I said the CRK Sabenza compares. It's just not true in my eyes. Emerson knives, as a general rule of thumb, are overpriced. Value is relative, so you may disagree. The bottom line is, however, that you are paying for a lifetime of customer service and repairs when you buy an Emerson. These knives may not be for collectors who will never use the them for their intended purposes. Their value is greatly diminished if you don't plan to carry it on a daily basis. Overall, the Super Commander is a great SELF-DEFENSE blade. Docking it for the grind or any other design feature relative to a utility blade is misguided. Next to Zero Tolerance blades, I will carry Emerson knives for the rest of my life and do it with confidence. Pocket clip could ride lower.

To save a soldier's life
Knife comes out of box razor sharp, no blade play, wave feature, and this knife is all business. I bought this knife as a gift to nephew serving with Rangers in Afghanistan. During a night mission, nephew was pinned against wall by one of the bad guys. He managed to free one hand and reached for his knife. The wave feature on this knife saved my nephew's life.
