Description
FT0001: Classic 1
Morakniv

The Morakniv Classic has been developed by Mora of Sweden for over a century, and has been utilized by generations of carpenters and wood carvers. The tradition can be explained by the knives – with their classic red wooden handle – being pleasant to work with and having just the right feel. A reliable knife that has a given place among the tools of a handcrafter. Also used to a great extent by carpenters. Has a blade of carbon steel and a handle of red ochre birch. Comes with a plastic belt sheath.
Carbon Steel Blade:
  • Knife blades of high carbon steel can be hardened to HRC 59-60 giving best possible sharpness to lowest price. Knives made from above mentioned steel grades will after some use achieve a dullish grey finish. However, this will not negatively affect the quality of the blade. On the contrary it will somewhat improve the resistance to corrosion.

JUST A GUN SHOW FIND
I like this knife a lot. For years I have carried a lot of good knifes in the wilderness as a Boy Scout, a member of The American Mountain Men and as just a hunter and camper, however, this is one of the most interesting knives I have used. It is great for a hike, starting a fire, cutting up food and all the little chores one does on the trail. I found mine at a gun show and I am glad I did!

Far better then the price suggests.
This is as close to perfect as I have seen...for $15. Even if the sheath is crap and the handle is simple. It's comfortable to use with an excellent blade. Great for carving and bushcraft.

Why it's still a great classic blade
Squared the spine with a mill file in less than 5 minutes (it arrived quite rough, like a raw stamping with the burr knocked off). Now it throws sparks off a fire rod like a champ! Prepared materials for a fire. A wrist-thick chunk of sycamore and another of acacia. Both very dry. No need to baton...the blade was so sharp and handle so comfy I had them feathered down to nubs in no time with no hand or arm issues. (The handle is more comfortable for me than my Mora Heavy Duty Companion.) Used the spine and fire rod to then start tinder...cheery blaze in no time! Used it to whittle a spoon after prepping the blank with a hatchet. Works well, but I preferr the Mora 122 blade shape for detail work between the bowl and handle. Would love to set this light tool up as a neck carry but cannot due to laws in CA. A little reluctant to wear on my belt since the knife/sheath is so light you can't tell it's there and there is only friction retention. Bottom line: for the price and weight you get a great woodsmans tool to accompany a hatchet or machete.
