Amazing value
I do a lot of trail maintenance with the state park system and was looking for a pack axe to take with me on day hikes for when I don't have my Pulaski and fire rake with me. I was originally considering either the Granfors Bruks or Wetterlings as a pack axe since I am a big believer in buying less but buying better (when it breaks in the middle of a blizzard is the wrong time to figure out the extra cash was worth spending), but just about all of my firey friends have been singing the praises of this Fiskars axe (the Gerber is OEM). I was originally a little skeptical, but the first time out with it really changed my mind. The blade bites deep with very little effort and the poly handle is surprisingly forgiving on the hand and shoulder even after an hour of nearly constant use. The only issue I have with it is that it will void a warranty if you use it as a mallet or wedge. Apparently the hardness of the head makes it a shatter hazard. I have yet to take a stone to it so I have no basis to judge how it takes an edge, but the factory edge has worked wonders so far.

this is a rebadged fiskars x7 but thats actually a good thing. most of gerbers stuff is now chinese or taiwanese but this is actually made in fiskars factory in finland. which is why its such great quality. excellent little pack axe. waaaayayyyyy better than carrying a large knife specifically for chopping imo. durable , sharp, easy to swing.
