Description
GB6995: Silver Trident - Double Serration
Gerber

The Silver Trident is more than a symbol of Americas top Special Ops personnel. Its living proof that guys who handle our nations nastier chores will go through whatever kind of hell is necessary, so long as they have the best gear.

The Silver Trident has the most technically advanced handle ever engineered on a combat knife. Its resistant to heat, UV light and chemicals. The brainchild of William Harsey, Jr. and Chief Watson—a founding member of Navy Seal Team 2—the handle is a co-mold of two versions of the material called Hytrel. Inside, there's a rock-hard version for strength. Outside, there's the soft, textured version for extreme grip control. Use the stainless steel butt cap as a hammer.

The double-edged clip point blade is 154C stainless steel, heat-treated to achieve a hardness rating of HRC 59-61. That means you get excellent edge retention, strength and flexibility. The non-reflective black blade limits glare and corrosion.

Exactly what it was meant to be
This is the top notch combat fighter in the Gerber lineup, so Gerber has made a point of crafting every detail toward this end. At the outset, one can feel the sturdiness of this knife in the handle, which is hard yet secure even in XL hands. The pommel is flat and easy to overlook as it is firmly married to the blade itself, but it can transmit considerable power while pounding soft or rock-hard material--I was able to obliterate a sample of limestone with a few well-placed strikes. The guard is broad, strong, and ergonomic, making it easy to use as a cross brace in more exotic grip styles as well as providing solid finger protection. The blade makes good use of its premium steel in maintaining strength and stability while having a fairly thin shape. Still, this shape is totally appropriate for a double-edged fighting knife. The two different kinds of serration work best on very different materials: The spine's teeth are better suited to harder materials like wood, and the main serrated portion cuts leather and rope best. Apart from either portion remains several inches of fiercely sharp plain blade terminating in a strong, unmistakably dangerous penetrator tip. One would want nothing less on a combat knife. It seems that Gerber spent a lot of hours designing and perfecting this knife, in order to be the best weapon/tool they could make. They were quite successful in this regard.

Excellent Superlight Fighter
This knife is first rate in every way. Every aspect of it is well thought out and executed. The steel is one of the best stainless steels available. The handle is as touted - grippy, tough and comfortable. It is complete with a steel butt pommel, a lanyard hole that is the right diameter for standard paracord and a large ergonomic guard. On the guard is a notch that a nylon "flap" on the mouth of the sheath snaps tightly into. This allows the knife to be strapped upside down with extra confidence. Very nice. The serrations on the top of the knife's spine are of unique design. Unlike any other I've seen. They are deceivingly sharp. Also, the tip of this blade comes needle sharp. After sharpening this knife, you'll realize the steel is a little harder than average. Perfect for a longer excursion. With serrations on the top and bottom, this knife is not designed for working with wood or to be used as a bushcraft knife. Also, it takes some practice lifting the corner of the sheathes mouth flap to remove the knife from it's sheath at all, let alone quickly. That's the only drawback of the sheath system. On the positive side, the sheath is adjustable in every way. Even the depth of the front pocket. It is truly one of the better ballistic nylon sheathes that companies "throw" in with nearly all tactical knives. Of all the outstanding aspects of this great fighter, it's best feature is it's phenomenally light weight. It's balance is that you can barely feel that there is a blade out front! Truly incredible. An extremely fast, we'll designed, we'll made knife that you can take to war with absolute confidence.

Top Notch Knife!!
The knife itself is fantastic. The quality as I stated is "Top Notch". I read the bad reviews about the sheath but to be quite honest it's not that bad. It's kind of a pain to remove the knife from the sheath but other than that I like the sheath. If you want a top of the line american made knife you can't beat the the Sliver Trident!
