Pros: Blade Sharpness, Sheath/Scabbard, Handle Material, Blade Material, Materials, Weight, Overall Quality, Finish
Cons: None
Very good knife.
I really like this knife. It may seem expensive at first, but once you hold this beauty, it's love at first sight. I was looking for a bushcraft knife that had a Scandi edge and I wanted that knife to not be made in Asia, Central and South America, and most importantly CHINA. (Yes, I know China is in Asia.) After weeks of searching I found this knife. The knife comes in a little tube that says Helle on the side and it says designed by Les Stroud. The weight of the knife is surprising, very nice and light. The grip is comfortable and the wood is pretty and warm to the touch. (Note: The wood colors differ on the handle, I had the leisure of going to Knife Center and picking out my own knife.) The blade cut paper pretty easy and didn't snag. The sheath is leather with a plastic inlay to protect the sheath from the blade. On thing though is that the plastic inlay got loose on the first few times of taking the knife out and it came out. No worries, Helle is sending me a NEW leather sheath for free with no shipping cost at all. All in all, this is a great knife and that little sheath mishap shouldn't discourage you because if something like that does happen, you've got a Lifetime Guarantee and Helle will replace anything that is of manufacture error. (If slam the knife against a rock and ask for a new knife, they won't give you a new one.) So get this knife and you'll never regret any bit of it!

"When failure isn't an option" is how it was described to me
That's how this knife was described to me by someone. I'd have to agree. It's a stout knife, blade typical of Helle (I have the laminated SS version) and the spine runs all the way along the back of the handle. I've used it batoning (typically the worst abuse you can put a knife through in "normal" use) without any problem, and while I'm careful of form just out of habit I can't see how you could break this batoning wood. I take this knife backpacking, canoe tripping, and just about every outdoor activity I engage in, have used it for general cutting tasks, batoning and cutting firewood, food preparation, and just about anything else you could think of, and it looks brand new with only some cosmetic abrasions on the side of the blade that I could buff out if I was really worried about it, to show for what I've put it through. The only possible negative I could think of with this knife, which isn't really one for me, is that the thickness of the blade is a bit thick for slicing food thinly, but that's not the purpose of this knife.
