mixed feelings.
i have this carbon version. when i got the knife, the blade was defective. there were visible nicks in the edge. sharp still, but very grabby, notchy cutting thru paper. not a big deal..re-grind, with a slight bevel, and all was right. very very sharp. not carbon Mora sharp, but awful close. maybe better if i just do a true flat scandi grind instead like the guy above. the handle is very comfy. on the large side of things, but my hands and fingers move, so i feel i can fit a myriad of handle shapes. i like the birch. zero nonsense, all function. somebody at the factory got a little ambitious with a grinder and put some deep grooves in the end of my handle. i would have never seen it, but wearing it on my belt during my last deer hunt..i saw it clearly looking down at the butt end of the grip. definite handle damage from some enthusiastic grinding. i think over time, that will eat at me. haha. whatever. in the end, no deer so i cannot review the deer butchering ability of this thing. i rubbed the handle with this beeswax mineral oil mix i use on my cutting boards. the steel is confusing to me. being the carbon version must mean the inside layer is carbon. the outside is surprisingly stain resistance. cutting a bunch of citrus did nothing to patina the steel. the knife is super light. only a few ounces more than the flyweight champion, MORA. no biggie packing this thing on a weight conscious pack trip. (7.5oz on my kitchen scale). i havent tried striking a ferro rod with the thing. i've heard it sucks at making a spark. dont know, i am a bic lighter kinda guy. the sheath is lukewarm. it is very light. it isnt some burly leather. it is very delicate leather. the knife fits perfectly. i shined a light inside and there appears to be a plastic guard in there to keep the knife from slicing thru. it hangs on my belt beautifully. i can sit easily in comfort. how it looks is debateable. some love it..i "like"it. very traditional looking for Norway, i guess. one hunt in AZ left it scratched up. but AZ has a way of doing that to everything, including my skin. i rubbed the sheath down with Obernauf leather paste when i got home. it got darker slightly, but now it is kinda protected. i wish i could have butchered a deer with it. but nope. i did use it to cut some branches out of the way, and it was a tank! the thick blade is confidence inspiring. i am not a batoner, since i love me some axe tools. i wont deprive myself any axe swinging just to hammer my knife thru something. i dont bushcraft much. i like this knife. the messed up edge coming from the factory bummed me out bad. i didnt get to enjoy that "ooooo and aaahhhh" of feeling a virgin knife edge. mine sucked. i will use this knife to backpack with. the stain resistance is nice on trout fishing wilderness trips. my Mora rusted occasionally last year.

Edge Retention!
When I got this knife over a year ago the edge was razor sharp. The edge was slightly convex and although razor sharp, it lacked the bite to perform a push cut through news paper; so I took it to the stone and flattened out the bevel... and oh man! You would not believe how sharp this knife is... hands down the sharpest knife I have ever held! Plus the edge retention is perfection! Since I changed the convex edge to a flat edge over a year ago I have not sharpened it since! It will still push cut through news paper on ever single spot on the edge. If your thinking maybe this knife has been babied, think again... I use this knife with a baton to process kindling and I have baton chopped through three inch limbs without any damage to the softer outer steel on the spine. I have pried with the tip and dug out holes in wood with no damage at all to the tip. Keeping in mind the primary design function for this knife and my personal primary use for this knife - carving/whittling and in that area this knife truly excels. I carve with this knife pretty much daily. The handle causes no fatigue, even when using it literally all day. I could go on and on about this knife but to sum it up the three highlights for me are : 1. Edge Geometry/Cutting Performance. 2. Sharpness. 3. Edge retention.
