Description
KA2226: Mark I
KA-BAR Knives

During WWII a legend was born, as several companies were asked by the U.S. Government to help supply troops with combat/utility knives. KA-BAR® stepped up to the challenge and their reputation became so strong that all who are familiar with this knife refer to any of its kind simply as the "KA-BAR". The world’s most famous fixed-blade knife is still doing its job, with honors, almost 70 years later.

Neither the Department of the Navy nor any other component of the Department of Defense has approved, endorsed, or otherwise authorized this product.

Leather Sheath
Leather Sheath
Leather is known for its durability and traditional appeal. When compared to kydex it is preferred for its silence when bumped against other objects, as well as blade retention.
1095 Carbon Steel
1095 Carbon Steel
An excellent hard use steel, 1095 is a primary choice for camping and larger fixed blade knives for it's extreme toughness and ability to hold an edge. Corrosion resistance is very limited with this steel, most blades come with a coating to prevent premature rusting.

Darn good 5 inch knife
I'm very happy with my Kabar USN Mark I knife. It is extremely sturdy. Kabar did a great job with design and quality control, including with the sheath. I love the grip. Very high quality leather and finish. I use mine all around camp-sites and fishing cabins. I don't use it to filet, but it's a great bait knife and a great allround generalist. Mine has serrations, which I like, but without them it wouldn't be a bad hunting knife at all. It'd do a good job on a deer -- of that I'm certain. To be honest, I wouldn't change anything about. Functionally, it's exactly as advertised plus Kabar quality.

A GREAT KNIFE
Of all my knives, this is my favorite. Over fifty years ago I spent my enlistment in the United States Navy. This knife will always remind me of the " good old days."
