KA5603: Johnson Adventure Parangatang
This machete is part of the KA-BAR/Johnson Adventure line-up of knives. Built in the parang-style, the blade makes for a great choice for more intense chopping tasks, as the style was originally developed to deal with the woodier vegetation of Southeast Asia.

The 14-1/8" blade is made from 1095 Cro-Van steel with a flat grind and an edge angle of 20 degrees. The blade comes extremely sharp right out of the box... trust me. The Adventuregrip handle is made up of two textured Zytel scales, which provide great grip and hand feel. The length of the handle also allows for a couple of different grips depending on your current task. Weighing in at just less than 21 ounces, the Parangatang feels nicely balanced and should make for a comfortable item to carry and utilize in the field. We really like how the slim blade doesn't compromise mobility with unnecessary broadness. It's made in the USA and comes with a MOLLE compatible sheath. Overall, the KA-BAR Parangatang is an impressively balanced offering. It should make an ideal companion out in the field.

1095 Carbon Steel
1095 Carbon Steel
An excellent hard use steel, 1095 is a primary choice for camping and larger fixed blade knives for its extreme toughness and ability to hold an edge. Corrosion resistance is very limited with this steel, most blades come with a coating to prevent premature rusting.

Cons: Handle Material, Sheath/Scabbard
Excellent Bargain
Excellent machete for a great price. The steel is great for both light and heavy work. I use this machete for bush wacking in the Pacific north west and splitting larger firewood into kindling. It can take a razor sharp edge, it comes with one out of the box. The black texture coating on the blade shows no sign of wearing off after a year of work. The only draw back is the handle. It's a pretty good design but is too thin and small for my hands. I am happy they made the handle removable, this allowed me to make my own. I went with a micarta wrap that mimics the Condor golok. The sheath is functional but needs improvement. After all is said, if you can make your own handle and sheath, this machete will be perfect. The actual blade/steel has proven it's worth and is a bargain for the price. 4 stars because of the handle and sheath.

Best deal on Knifecenter
There is no better large chopper available especially for the deal Knifecenter has going. Much heavier duty than I expected and it came scary sharp. Sheath is very basic but this blade is worthy of a custom kydex sheath.

great machete, just tennis wrap the handle
This machete a great chopper, especially for its size. I like the shape of the handle, I wrapped mine with a layer of baseball tape then added a leather tennis grip to it and I have no complaints. I highly recommend wrapping the handle if you plan on alot of use. Sheath does suck....
