A RIGHT-SIZED EMERSON - KERSHAW IN OLIVE DRAB

Kershaw Knives and Emerson Knives have joined forces on a series of knives that combine the precision engineering of Kershaw with Emerson's uncompromising functional design.

The CQC-5K features a modified clip-point blade for versatile cutting capability. Black-oxide coating protects the blade and makes it non-reflective, too. G-10 handles in olive drab provide secure grip and a locking liner means safe and solid blade lock up.

The CQC-5K is a manual opener using either the thumb disk or the patented Emerson "wave shaped feature." This opening feature enables the knife to be opened as it is removed from the pocket. By the time the knife has been fully withdrawn from the pocket, the blade is deployed and ready for use. A small wave-shaped tab on the top of the blade is built to catch on the pocket seam, opening the knife as it comes out of the pocket. This instant-open feature is a favorite among military, rescue, and law enforcement knife users.

This knife design based off the Emerson Commander model without the recurve to the blade and the pocketclip is reversible for left- or right-handed carry.
Features
  • Manual - There is no mechanical assist, such as SpeedSafe, used to open the folding knife. It opens the classic, old-school way.
  • Liner Lock - Locks the blade open during use; one side of the knife’s steel “liner,” the steel plate to which the handle scales are attached, moves into position behind the blade to securely lock it open.
  • Reversible - Pre-drilled holes in the handle enable the user to change either the tip position or the side on which the knife carries.

Pros: Blade Material, Overall Quality, Handle Material, Weight, Pocket Clip, Lock Type
Cons: None
Straightforward and honest knife
Of the three Emerson designed Kershaws that I bought pre-release, the CQC-5K is the most lightweight. The handle is a little thick, but the G10 on both sides provides good control and grip. 8Cr14MoV is a good steel, similar to AUS-8: from stone to strop to work in hand, I feel the two steels are equal. I'm not sure the wave-shaped feature is really my thing, but that's Emerson's trademark. It provides a nice thumb rest, even though the pocket-snag opening concept is a little shady from a safety standpoint. The disc is no substitute for a thumb stud, but that's also a matter of opinion. A drop of oil and a fine-tune with a Torx bit makes the pivot solid and smooth. All in all, this is a great carry knife, well-made, and way easy on the wallet.

Good Knife, edge could be better
I wanted to try Emerson knives, but $200. The wave feature kick butt! Thanks to all for the great way to experience a Great design. I will be buying the Emerson, and using both! The only con is the blade sharpness.
