Lansky 4 rod Sharpener
The underneath storage was a little tight upon the first few uses but then became just right. This is one of the easiest to use of all sharpeners I have ever used.

So Simple A Caveman ....
I got this as a replacement for the 'Russell' version that I have had for 35 years (just don't recall what I did with it). There are quite a few 'ceramic stick' sharpeners out there but I am much happier with the 'long' stick versions and they are not so easy to find. My original only had one set of rods so it could take some time if you let an edge get bad. This sharpener has two sets, I will call them medium and fine. I haven't tried to measure the angles but it would seem that the fine stones get just a bit more angle to finish the edge. Contrary to the above picture the grey (medium) rods should be used in the holes closer to the hand guard and the white (fine) rods are used in the holes shown. Perhaps the angles are the same and it doesn't matter much but I tend to follow instructions (until or unless I learn a better way. In the end, what matters is how a product works, I was very happy with my old version but this one is MUCH BETTER. Most of my knives don't get abused too much before getting attention (not always the case when I get handed someone else's blade to sharpen. The little I have used this so far (on 440C), required only about 10 light strokes on the medium rods and something similar on the fine to get a shaving, hair popping edge. Your mileage will vary depending on what you start with. This will not replace my Lansky diamond stone set for setting the angles on a blade but sure makes 'touch-ups' a breeze. I would have been very happy with this at regular retail price, getting it from Knife Center at a special price makes it all the better, saves me some $$ to put toward that 'Pacific' I need to own someday!
