Mil-Tac Knives and Tools
This TDP upgrade kit will work with all versions of the TDP. These all-weather pen refills write on wet paper and upside down in all weather conditions. This ball point refill was jointly developed with Rite-in-the-Rain and the Fisher Space Pen Company as a pressurized ball point refill with waterproof ink and will work in temperatures ranging from -30F to 250F. These pen refills work in conjunction with the Rite in the Rain paper notebooks also sold by MIL-TAC for an all weather combination for military, law enforcement, and outdoor sport enthusiasts to make sure that your notes are permanent and available.

Pros: None
Cons: Durability, Refill Quality, Materials, Overall Quality
Defense Pen
The quality of the defense pen was so poor I gave it away. Furthermore the refill I ordered as a spare came broken in shipping and I never heard from the boys in Helena again. Move along.

Cons:
The easy way out, but unnecessary.
While this is a ready-to-use waterproof insert, it's possible to turn the original roller ball cartridge that comes with the pen into a ballpoint conversion that allows you to use Fisher inserts. Rip the pen point out with pliers, carefully twist out the plastic nipple, then remove the ink sponge from the interior of the steel tube and rinse/swab out the interior. Cut a small piece of narrow surgical tubing and insert it into the bottom of the steel tube to act as a spacer so the ballpoint sits at the proper height. Using a drill of the proper size, drill out the hole of the plastic nipple to fit snugly on the Fisher cartridge at the proper height. Place the plastic nipple over the end of the Fisher insert, and then press it into the steel tube, and you now have a reusable converter!
