Description
ON1400: ASEK Survival Knife System
Ontario Knife Company

This knife is used by the Air Warrior Program and other branches of the U.S. Armed Forces

The ASEK Survival Knife System designed and manufactured by The Ontario Knife Company is the one and only Survival/Egress knife chosen by the Untied States Army to be included in its Air Warrior Equipment System. Don't be fooled by imitations - This is the only ASEK Survival Knife Systems tested and approved by PM Soldier and Natick Research Labs to meet the criteria defined by the US Army. This system is a Survival/Egress knife with plexiglas breaker, hammer, saw teeth, serrations, spear holes, lanyard hole and insulated guard. It comes with an anodized aluminum strap cutter to cut webbings, cord, cloth, etc. It has a screwdriver and a honing rod to keep your knife field sharp. The fire retardant scabbard fits on the pilot's vests, load bearing equipment, web belt, belt or can be worn on the calf as designed for Air Warrior. The strap cutter fits in the left leg pocket on flight suits and is a must for medical crews.

1095 Carbon Steel
An excellent hard use steel, 1095 is a primary choice for camping and larger fixed blade knives for it's extreme toughness and ability to hold an edge. Corrosion resistance is very limited with this steel, most blades come with a coating to prevent premature rusting.

Modern Pilot's Knife
This is a modern take on the old USAF "pilot's survival knife" from the Viet Nam era. Any true "survival knife",is a compromise,as it is a knife that will always be carried, and used in a true survival situation. This knife is a real "step up"from the original, as it is much better for everyday camp use.The sheath is a definite improvement over the original, and the strap cutter is a real plus. Most importantly,it's still made in the U.S.A!!!

Well thought out system!
I was really impressed with this system. The blade is big enough for large tasks yet small enough for finer tasks. Very comfortable grip for long term tasks. Non reflective zinc coating is tough and works well. Lashing eyelets are a plus. Strap cutter is super sharp, easily and quickly deployed from the sheath without removing the knife. Ceramic honing rod on the strap cutter is a nice touch. And to round out the trifecta, is a solid, rugged, sheath with multiple wearing configurations. If I could only add one thing to the system, it would be a ferro rod (which I DID add with a ranger band).
