ON8333: 125th Anniversary SP8 Spec Plus Machete Survival
Ontario Knife Company
Ontario Knife Company is celebrating their 125 year in business with a series of Anniversary knives featuring special engravings and blade finishes. They are classic Ontario models that have served US Military troops well in the field for decades. This Spec Plus SP8 Machete Survival doesn't have the same track record as some models but is a superior tactical field tool. Measures 15-1/8" overall with a 10" 1095 carbon steel sawback blade. Black grooved Kraton handle with lanyard hole and black epoxy coated blade. This anniversary model comes with an excellent OD Green Kydex sheath with loops for 1-1/2" thick belts. Made in the USA.

1095 Carbon Steel
1095 Carbon Steel
An excellent hard use steel, 1095 is a primary choice for camping and larger fixed blade knives for its extreme toughness and ability to hold an edge. Corrosion resistance is very limited with this steel, most blades come with a coating to prevent premature rusting.
Kydex Sheath
Kydex Sheath
Waterproof, scratch resistant, and low friction. It will hold its shape and makes a great alternative to leather.
Zytel Handles
Zytel Handles
A nylon polymer that is lightweight and extremely durable, Zytel can be shaped and textured to provide excellent grip.

Almost perfect
I purchased this as a collectible but when it arrived, I realized that this thick slab of steel concealed a clever design which makes it perfect for the outdoors. The chisel ground tip is perfect for digging and prying while the blade thickness will allow it to handle most camp chopping duties easily. The saw back though has only limited utility. Thankfully, the serrations end about 2 inches firm the tip which leaves ample space for batoning. The sheath is solid and secure but possibly too secure as drawing this tool from the sheath will more of a violent pull rather than a smooth one. The only remaining question is whether or not this beast should get off the display case and get out where she belongs.
