Pros: Overall Quality, None
Cons: Handle Material, Sheath/Scabbard
good blade
love the 7.5 inch blade with finger choil.1/4 steel gives me confedience in survival situations. if this knife had the bk7 handle it would be outstanding,or if the bk7 had 1/4 steel and finger choil it would be first in its class.somebody put the rd7 and bk7 in bed for the knight and see if we can make the perfect survival knife that would blow all others away.

Why pay more?
Although the RD7 is considered a combat style fixed blade,it also has the necessary features that makes for a good wilderness survival knife. With it's thick .25 inch piece of 5160 carbon steel,it has the thickness, and weight necessary for batoning/chopping if called upon for those tasks.Plus it has a practical clip point blade design.I also like that it has REMOVEABLE micarta scales.Kray-Ex,and other rubber style handles that engulf the entire tang can become loose from their tangs, and cause moisture to rust the tang. But with removeable slabs, you can keep the tang oiled good, and not have to worry about rust,or the handle coming loose.IF the screws do come loose, simply tighten back down.If the scales are too thick,or aggressive, simply take apart and sand to fit..Another important feature which gets overlooked sometimes is the pommel. An exposed steel pommel is a mandatory feature for a survival knife in my opinion. The reason is because a knife like this will eventually be used to hammer objects with. And since the RD7 has an exposed steel pommel,it can handle any task that requires hammering..Try hammering with an enclosed pommel surrounded by rubber material, and you chance destroying the handle. As for the sheath,it's not that bad.I've seen better, and i've seen worse.Thing is,it get's the job done. You can modify to suit your needs. For the price of this knife,i can't complain about the sheath..For Under $90,you get an American made fixed blade, that's a .25 inch thick, flat ground and has a very good grade of carbon steel, and micarta handles. You will not find a better knife for the price anywhere..I highly recommend the Ontario RD7.
