Solid Knife for
The Quartermaster is arguably one of the best field knives that were actually put INTO the field. The steel utilized in the manufacture of this blade is sturdy, and the edge is, with a bit more sharpening, combat-ready for loads of work - the edge holds very well with this steel. The butt actually can work well as a hammer, however you may not want to ruin the beautiful brass finish. I would argue that the knife is a bit blade-heavy, and the handle is too short, making a grip a problem for folks with larger hands. By lengthening the handle by about a 1/4 inch, I think this would also solve the balance issue as well. However, this would also in essence become a new knife, and what Ontario has here is a fine reproduction of a stalwart piece of equipment. Well done!

Great knife!
The quartermaster is a great knife for hunting, camping, etc. It is well balanced and is comfortable in the hand. The handle is smooth, but has enough texture to provide a good grip. Out of the box the blade has a serviceable edge, but could stand to be a bit sharper. The only other downside is the sheath; the rivets tend to rub against the blade when pulling it out/in. 5 star knife, 3 star sheath.
