An excellent hard use steel, 1095 is a primary choice for camping and larger fixed blade knives for it's extreme toughness and ability to hold an edge. Corrosion resistance is very limited with this steel, most blades come with a coating to prevent premature rusting.

Good knife
This was reccomended to me from someone who has experience with surival knives and it is very good, blade is very strong and is versitile enough to use for many different uses, the only thing i didnt like was the sheath it came with, i would have happily paid extra for the option of a leather sheath

RAT 7 - Great Outdoor Knife!
I bought this knife to take camping. I had reservations over whether to buy this knife or a hatchet. But since there were so many good reviews on the Internet about the RAT 7, I decided to buy it. Am I glad I did! This knife is a great companion on those extended camping trips. I like the Micarta handles and don't have to worry about moisture ruining them. The knife is easy to sharpen and it can take lots of abuse and resharpens quickly and easily! I do have to agree with other reviews that the Sheath is a little less than ideal, but aftermarket sheaths are available all over the place.
