1095 Carbon Steel
1095 Carbon Steel
An excellent hard use steel, 1095 is a primary choice for camping and larger fixed blade knives for its extreme toughness and ability to hold an edge. Corrosion resistance is very limited with this steel, most blades come with a coating to prevent premature rusting.

Pros: Materials, Handle Material, Weight, Overall Quality
Cons: Blade Sharpness, None
one small flaw. the grind was soooo shallow and fat. needed a full reprofile. luckily i can do this. but if you expect this to be razor sharp out of the box you will be disappointed. however i will say, once you straighten out the grind ( which you shouldnt have to do ) it is a superb work horse knife for less than 40 bux. also the sheath sucks.

Overall a very good knife. Sheath/Scabbard was a tight fit.

If you just bought a new sharpener and don't mind losing 3 hrs
I dont know if I'm just unlucky or what but Ive bought 2 Ontario knives this one and the SP2 Air Force Survival and both of them areDULL AS ALL HELL out of the factory. Looks like a 30 degree grind that couldn't even cut an envelope out of the box. Took me HOURS of grinding on a brilliant lansky double sided diamond sharpener coarse/fine (highly recommended its brilliant) to give it a serviceable edge to waft through paper card. Its fine as a knife past then but that's pretty shocking out of the box when my KABAR was shaving hairs out of the box for comparison.
