Leather Sheath
Leather Sheath
Leather is known for its durability and traditional appeal. When compared to Kydex it is preferred for its silence when bumped against other objects, as well as blade retention.
1095 Carbon Steel
1095 Carbon Steel
An excellent hard use steel, 1095 is a primary choice for camping and larger fixed blade knives for its extreme toughness and ability to hold an edge. Corrosion resistance is very limited with this steel (it will rust) and most blades come with a coating to prevent premature rusting.
Zytel Handles
Zytel Handles
A nylon polymer that is lightweight and extremely durable, Zytel can be shaped and textured to provide excellent grip.

Pros: Materials, Blade Sharpness, Overall Quality, Handle Material, Blade Material, None
Cons: Sheath/Scabbard, Finish
Faithful Companion
This is a knife that is made for heavy use (not abuse) A large knife that can perform basic carving task as well. I had to adjust the grind of the blade at the handle a little for carving although the factory edge is good for chopping and batoning. The sheath is...., well, ok. Functional, although my personal preference would have been a sheath of the same materials without the slit on top. The edge on the guard is a bit too sharp for my liking but I can live with it. The overall quality of the manufacturing and the materials that was used is of a high standard for the price category and this is a knife that can be a faithful companion.

Great Knife
I have thought about buying this knife off and on for many years but never did. I finally ordered one from KnifeCenter after handling the knife at a big box store (where the price was much higher) and found it to be extremely sharp. I believe this knife could do anything the best Bowie Knives can do, and the knife is just plain "cool." The sheath could be better, but not a huge deal. I also thank KnifeCenter Customer Service for performing a Holliday Season "miracle" by getting this "out of stock" knife to me double quick.

heavy robust and really big.
I have a large hand and if the handle was any bigger, I would need both to hold on to this- thing. that's right [a big wopping thing of a knife. now I know why they call it the marine -raider; bowie. I ain;t used mine yet, but I'm quite sure it can take a beating. Ontario must of fixed the sheath problem some spoke of, my snap -buttons work well just choke up when pulling open. and since I'm in mn. I ain't tested below 0 , but I will soon. i'll let -u- know.
