Leather Sheath
Leather Sheath
Leather is known for its durability and traditional appeal. When compared to kydex it is preferred for its silence when bumped against other objects, as well as blade retention.
1095 Carbon Steel
1095 Carbon Steel
An excellent hard use steel, 1095 is a primary choice for camping and larger fixed blade knives for it's extreme toughness and ability to hold an edge. Corrosion resistance is very limited with this steel, most blades come with a coating to prevent premature rusting.

Best "Bang" for Your Buck.
I wanted to add my 2 cents. I purchased this product almost two years ago & I can't think of a better tool to have. On arrival the edge angle was horrible. But if you have experience w/Ontario products, then some persistence & know how about sharpening your blades by hand, then it shouldn't be a huge obstacle to get slicing. I love the top heavy feel w/this large knife. The 1/4 inch thickness makes chopping through limbs/joints while butchering, tree limbs, batoning through processed stove logs into skinnier pieces easy. Romping through the woods w/this @ my side gives me comfort. And to those people w/weak wrists that like "light" blades then this blade isn't for you. The 1095 steel is tempered nicely & is very easy to maintain out in the dry climate in Arizona & you don't need the black oxide coating much out here. Besides some mods I did to the blade, I didn't change much & sheath was outstanding quality. Buy this if you want a USA made workhorse & you can handle large beefy blades.

Great knife!
I was thinking about getting this knife, but after my friend let me borrow it for one day I decided against it. Here is why: I am 6'2" and weigh close to 280 lbs. and around 18-20% body fat. I am by no means small. This is just a HUGE knife. I wore it at the waist and tied the string on the other end to my leg. Over the course of the day I went all over the place. In stores where I was worried about getting the cops called I left the knife in the car. The knife is so big that is seems to catch on anything you come too close to. If you are bushwacking then be prepared to be spun around one or twice. As far as the knife itself goes, it is fantastic. I love the weighty heft to it. The clip point blade and the wicked belly on this beast make it look really intimidating. Beyond that this knife is really unpractical for a large knife that you would have on you all day say out in the field or whatever. It makes a great piece to show off and play around with from time to time, but for fighting you would wear yourself out in no time. I give it 5 stars because it is everything it says. I just think this is a little too much for practical purposes.
