Leather Sheath
Leather Sheath
Leather is known for its durability and traditional appeal. When compared to kydex it is preferred for its silence when bumped against other objects, as well as blade retention.
1095 Carbon Steel
1095 Carbon Steel
An excellent hard use steel, 1095 is a primary choice for camping and larger fixed blade knives for it's extreme toughness and ability to hold an edge. Corrosion resistance is very limited with this steel, most blades come with a coating to prevent premature rusting.

Cons: Overall Quality, Sheath/Scabbard, Blade Sharpness
Poor quality control
Don't get me wrong, Ontario has had excellent products that I've purchased in the past, but the luck I've had with this knife has been terrible. The first knife came very dull, and the sheath's buttons literally sheared in half when I tried to unsnap them. When I called about it, they sent me a whole new knife with sheath. One button had the same problem the moment I got it and attempted to unsnap it, cleanly snapped into two pieces. The knife itself came with a rattling guard; it was not secured to the knife at all and actively shook around between the blade and the grip. Very annoying, either ordered in a time period where someone who hated people was in charge of quality control, or it's just that poorly made of a knife. Other big knife products that I recommend from Ontario are the SP8 Survival Machete, the SP6 Fighter, and the Ranger series.

Pros: Blade Material, Sheath/Scabbard, Handle Material, Weight, Materials, Overall Quality, None
Cons: Weight
I love this knife. It is perfect when you're going into the woods. The weight of the blade makes it capable of chopping down small trees for firewood. When I went out to the cabin and the axe was frozen to the ground in the wood shed, the thick blade and weight split dry wood very well. On a day long hike through thigh deep snow, it ended up being very heavy on my hip. I think I'm going to make a shoulder sling to hang it inverted behind my back, the sheath holds very solid with the double snaps and would do fine inverted. The grip is amazing, never slipped with winter gloves on, but without gloves it will test your hands if you're doing lots of chopping. The blade wasn't close to sharp out of the box due to an uneven grind, but after about 10 minutes on a stone I had it sorted out and got it razor sharp with my sharpmaker set at 40 degrees. I've only had to sharpen it twice, but it does start to rust if you don't use it regularly and/or oil it. This is my favourite work knife, I'm not worried about it's capabilities or scratching it up. Holds an edge very well.

No Taiwan,or China made knife here..
This knife has no competition when it comes down to what materials is used, and it's price...9.75 inches of 1095 carbon steel, that's a .25 inch thick, and made right here in the USA.There's lots of large fixed blades available, some good, some so-so,and some not so good. But alot are over-hyped, Over-rated,not to mention Over-priced.This bowie doesn't come with a luxurious look, and shine. It doesn't have the best fit/finish,but who cares, this is a beat the hell out of it,and not worry, kind of knife. It doesn't have an Over-rated,fancy named steel. There's nothing
